SM2 is so different because it wasn't originally a mario game. the real SM2 was much like SM1, only too difficult for most audiences. so for the US market, nintendo just took an unknown game called "yume kōjō: doki doki panic," replaced the main character with mario, and boom.

Know of anywhere you can find the "real" SMB2 online?

  4. I don't know about online, but it was part of that Mario Chronicles thing they did recently on the DS, I believe.

It was "Super Mario: The Lost Levels" on that Super Mario All-Stars game for SNES.

Still . . .I really like the Super Mario 2 that was on the original NES; maybe I liked it more because it wasn't a Mario game. Nintendo loves to tap that Zelda-Mario well.

Hey Inky . . . I'm reminded of pulling out the comb and tapping those buttons like there's no tomorrow. That and Karate Champ (no buttons, all moves using combinations with two joysticks) were awesome mid-1980s games.

  7. It looks like you can download the original SM:2 (Japanese version) from Wii Online, based on what I read on Wikipedia.
Of course, I don't own a Wii, so maybe I'm an idiot who misunderstood.

Ah, bases loaded. Paste and Bay were friggin monsters. I also was a fan of hitting the opposing team's slugger after the fourth inning or so, so he'd beat up the pitcher and get tossed.

Can anybody out there tell me the four umps without looking it up?

Comb? I'd have smoked you using my Velcro wallet and rocking it back-and-forth onto the buttons.

Ah, Karate Champ. Left stick to the left, right stick to the right was the spinning heel kick. I loved that move.

    YUK, DUM, BOO, BUM.

I always playd as Miami. The 2-5 hitters of Moyer-Warner-Adams-Centro were solid. Henter on the mound. Bring it.

I am confident they'll find a place for Metal gear Solid 3 on this list. dammit.

My life wasn't the same after I played GTA3 for the first time. I had never heard of the game before I picked it up, though I'm quite glad I did.

Some other coin-ops I enjoyed back in my young'n days:
    Paperboy (as mentioned)
    Tapper
    Centipede
    Joust
    Pole Position
    Toobin'
    Marble Madness
    Crystal Castles
