So he has taken a 90 percent pay cut from 10 years ago.

Find me a company who isn't compensating its employees -- and giving them raises and bonuses -- at a fraction of what their leader is getting. Heck, Gannett's top guy a few years ago had $20 million compensation package. The new guy probably still does.

    Next.

Is he still getting the $10 million bonus?
So his base salary has gone up $175,000 in 10 years.. that's approximately 2.1 percent a year. Not that much of an annual raise.
The amount of the bonus is where he really cleans up.

Come on ... one employee got a 4 cents an hour raise. How can you say that's a fraction of what the leader is making? That's not a fraction ... that's a micro-fraction. Do you know of any other newspaper/magazine that doled out such a miniscule raise? It would have been better to not give that kind of "raise" at all. At JRC, it's the haves ... and the have-nots ... and employees who aren't in management are definitely the have-nots.

Yes. Mine, which has essentially frozen wages, the pension (which was killed off for new employees years ago already) and hiring.

But really, all I'm saying is you don't need to reach so far to bash JRC.

I've already announced publicly (well, my lackeys have) that employees at one of my glittering "clusters" (hee hee, I love that word), will get no raises for three years.

    Zero.

But you see, I'm doing them a favor. It teaches responsible financial management, to know how much money you're going to be making three years from now. (IF you have a job, that is. Snicker snicker.) Of course, minor factors like paying for health insurance yourself (I'm going to dump it, it's really becoming quite a pain to keep paying for it) may affect that outlook, but at least you know you'll have a maximum figure to work with.

I am happy to announce, however, that one of the most generous perks within the JRC empire will continue: Employee families will continue to enjoy a $5.00 discount on any obituary notices placed in JRC publications for employees who happen to die while actively employee (provided the regular rate is in excess of $100.00). To reiterate our generosity to our corporate family, we will also allow a special $2.00 discount to any employees who may die as the result of suicide (although our legal counsel advises us we are probably not obligated to do so).

Just Because We Care. ;) ;) Excuse me now, I've got to run out and pick up some Valentine's gifts. ;D ;D

That probably was comforting to the family of that publisher in Taunton a few years ago.

I'll probably end up killing myself for less reason than that.

if i ever had to work for jrc, i have an idea i'd eat a .45 slug within a year ... two bucks probably is the amount they'd pay mrs. petty in life insurance.

When Bob got his $10 million bonus, he was the highest-paid newspaper exec in the country that year.

The second-highest paid newspaper exec in the country that year was Jean Clifton...
