That was one of the funniest posts I've ever seen! I'm laughing so hard I feel like crying!

    ;D

  2. Reasons To Not Work For JRC

Reason No. 6: A part time employee making less than $10 per hour typed a full college/major-league style boxscore for a high school baseball game. The spacing between the totals for atbats, hits, runs and runs batted in was off so that the total amounts did not line up with the appropriate columns above. The boxscore's statistics added up correctly. Only the spacing (or tabbing) was off by one line. The boxscore made it into the paper with this incorrect spacing and the JRC CEO personally ordered that the employee receive a suspension. The newspaper's publisher gave the employee a three days without pay suspension and then told the employee: "You'll be a better reporter after this." Translation: Thank you sir, may I have another?

I don't doubt these stories, but can someone tell me if Jelenic really is as big of an asshole as is claimed here?

Yes. Yes he is. Terrible temper, fixated on minor things, oblivious to huge circulation declines (some of the Connecticut dailies have lost two-thirds of their circulation since he bought them), and eager to fire editors.

I've read all that. But I really want to hear from people who've actually done business with him/know him in another realm.

As funny as this was, it would have been funnier if could have been even funnier if the poster had been Laine, daughter of Bob instead of Lee.

  8. Reasons To Not Work For JRC

Reason No. 6: A reporter was fired because a vacation he had scheduled months in advance coincided with Bob's favorite prep high school ice hockey tournament. The tournament includes only one team located within the newspaper's circulation region. A tournament game----between two teams that were located no closer than 150 miles to the newspaper----that Bob attended was not staffed by the newspaper because the beat reporter was on vacation. When no game article appeared in the newspaper the next day, the reporter was ordered to be fired. The reporter was accused of choosing vacation days that knowingly landed on the same days as this "important" ice hockey tournament. Translation: Bob could not read how many goals and assists a group of teen boys compiled and so someone had to pay.

Is this the same reporter who did so much instant messaging and ogling of porn web sites while on the job that it prompted the Trenton Thunder to post a sign in the pressbox that banned such activities? The same reporter who would show up in the fourth inning of the game? The same reporter who usually never showed for the first game of a doubleheader? The same reporter who often walked in at 7:30 p.m. for a shift that started at 6 p.m.? The same reporter who would often stay in the office until 5 a.m. so he could continue his hot-n-heavy instant messaging conversations on company computers? The same reporter who ate at a McDonald's near his home and expensed the meal? And he had the nerve to complain when his reimbursement checks were late?

  11. Sinking Ship,

I am glad to hear anyone's opinions on this thread. We all have different views and can offer interesting perspectives on the topics. But, I think your most recent post is an unfair attack on an employee that might not even be participating on this website. I have tried to keep private some specific details on posts I have made based on personal messages sent to me. Your one-sided attack of an employee that was not involved in the topic at all is unfair and I am asking you to please edit out that last post. I have enjoyed your participation in this thread but, I think in this situation you made an unfair post.

I never got to cover any of her games, so I can't say first hand. But in the photos from the games, no.
