The high school sports spring season gets going in force next week.

You want to see athletes playing with heart, determination and desire, for the love of the game and not some paycheck with a bunch of zeroes? Then, get out to a field or track this spring.

You’ll remember why it is you love sports."

    ----

In other words, the kids try hard....

  3. In fairness, that's just some papers' style. The Chicago Tribune, for one, does not use "on" to separate a proper noun and a day of the week.

  4. If there are lots of strange cats sitting in bleachers by themselves, watching high school games that don't involve any kids they know, we'll know who sent them there. I'm sure those kids' parents will be glad to know AB is the one who suggested they go watch their children.

And no matter how much he (or anyone else) begs the readers to turn out en masse to a high school game, the usual suspects will be the only people in attendance the next day. Does anyone -- SE, columnist, whatever -- honestly think they can turn prep spring sports into some sort of packed-house phenomenon?

And what exactly makes them play with more heart and determination than, say, college or pro athletes? Because nobody watches them?

Nothing against Aaron; it's a long-held peeve of mine, and this was the most convenient opening1.

    [sup]1 -- I know, I know. Gross.

  6. I'd think you could make more than $35 for that, even if you had to do it a couple of times a day.

In fairness, it should be written. ...

It has been a thrilling tournament, with one great game after another, capped by the Hoyas' scintillating comeback overtime win Sunday over North Carolina in East Rutherford.

Some thoughts, big and small, as we anxiously await the start of the Major League Baseball season ...

    ANXIOUS
1 : characterized by extreme uneasiness of mind or brooding fear about some contingency : WORRIED <anxious parents>
2 : characterized by, resulting from, or causing anxiety : WORRYING <an anxious night>
3 : ardently or earnestly wishing <anxious to learn more>

He probably wrote "eager" but his overworked desk changed it.

    Another great line:

Ron Jaworski replaces Joe Theismann as the analyst on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. Does that mean we can watch MNF WITH volume this season?

Does this mean he is reversing his no TV sound policy?
