WTF is the sports editor of a newspaper in Trenton doing writing about the NCAA tournament.

    What's wrong with that?

  3. Where's his knowledge base? Has he ever covered major Division I hoops? Was he at any of the games? Or is he just writing from his couch?

There's the appropriate Princeton tie-in angle for NCAA Tournament columns

Harvey Yavener talking to Pete Carrill on John Thompson III's potential:

Or Mark Eckel on Princeton U. AD Gary Waters doing a great job seeding the tournament and his search for Joe Scott's replacement:

Ask him. He'll pick up the phone and tell you his qualifications. At last check, I didn't know you had to have qualifications to write about the NCAA tournament, but I could be wrong.

I think he was an AP stringer for some Big 5 (Penn, Villanova, La Salle, Drexel, and Temple) men's basketball games a few years ago... but I could be mistaken as I might be mixing him up with another writer I know who did some Big 5 stringing for the AP.

  7. He could write about whatever he likes. But how is it serving the reader if he wasn't at least there to gain some unique perspective on the subject?

There's nothing unique about the NCAA tournament. It's a basketball tournament that has been covered many times by many people sitting in their living rooms.
You might be excited being there because you may be a fan, but it's a basketball tournament. The championship game is the championship game. It's not that big of deal.

  9. Dude, shut the fuck up. You don't know me; you don't know anything about me. Shouldn't you be readying your next work of fiction?

And I'm sure the hundreds of media outlets across the country that will be at the championship game would disagree with your views. I read Aaron's column. It offered nothing but a bunch of bullshit mishmash anyone could have gotten from watching SportsCenter or scanning the AP wire. And I'd be willing to bet money he didn't watch Sunday's race at BMS.

So I shouldn't have even equated what he's doing with coverage. For that, I apologize to Aaron.

I'm sorry you are so upset. I see that you are having a rough time dealing with this and many other subjects. You seem to know a lot about sports and this business. I bet you're a big fish in a big pond. I'm very happy for you. You bring a lot to the table. Keep up the good work.

This thread is getting like Lord of the Flies. So much venom directed at one sports editor over pretty innocuous stuff so far. There's pure evil atop the company and you want to rip into some guy for writing sports stories?

  12. I'm sorry Frank, but you don't have the conch. :)
