    1. Teams do not trade quarterbacks with whom they've won multiple Super Bowls without a DAMN good reason, and public relations and/or actual moral revulsion are nowhere near good enough.
If we accept that premise, then there's only one logical conclusion. The Steelers know something, something very bad we don't know yet, about Roethlisberger. He is being dealt not because of the current catastrophe, but to remove the franchise from the danger of a future catastrophe that's much much worse and that the franchise has good reason to believe will indeed take place.

  4. I don't understand her point or what she's insulted about.

  5. She did just read the thread. I don't spend my life-savings of time here. Thank you, sir.

  6. Don't post on here while ripping other people for posting too much. It's unbecoming.

    Agreed, to an extent.

I'm sure the Steelers do know more about Roethlisberger than we do. But I also think even if there's not much more there*, the Rooneys might still want him gone due to fan reaction.

    * - I've got $1 that says Roethlisberger enters alcohol rehab in the near future.

  8. Probably not just for show, either.

The reaction in Pittsburgh to this is amazing. Not surprising, but amazing. People are apparently sending anything with his name or number to the team offices saying they want him gone. Most of the city has turned completely on the guy. I'm sure some of the very same people who were lining up outside the hospital to find out if he was going to be ok after the motorcycle accident now wnat nothing to do with them.

Basically, they think he betrayed them, so now they hate the guy.
Notice I write that as they. I may be a Steelers fan, but this all strikes me as damn naive. A star athlete is a bad guy? Really? What a fucking shock. Root for the team. That's fine. Obviously, I do. But don't put the these people up on a fucking pedestal and then scream when they don't live up to your moral expectations. I can't stand the guy, either, at this point. But I'm not crying over it. I want him gone, but the gesture of sending in jerseys and posters strikes me as useless and silly.

And if he does get traded? Those fans need to remember this when the team starts losing. Watch those same fans start whining about getting exactly what they wanted. I think it is time for him to go, too, but I get that it means accepting the team losing for a while. Maybe a very long while. I wonder if the people turning in their Big Ben jerseys are ready to accept that.

If the Steelers do trade him without getting full value, is also a joke, it isn't about morality. Maybe Michael_Gee is right and they know something really awful that we don't know yet. Or maybe it is about public relations.

The really gutsy response is to either cut him immediately or say they are going to give the guy the opportunity to redeem himself. Does anybody really think the Steelers just now found out the details about that night in Georgia? Bullshit. They aren't getting rid of Roethlisberger because of what he did. They waited to see what the public reaction would be. Now that they see how ugly the reaction is, they want him gone because they can't have any athlete ruining the Steelers' good name.

That, or they did their own investigation and they know a big, fat shoe is about to drop.

It isn't about punishing Roethlisberger or having had enough. It is about the Rooney family image. Trading him to another team where he will still get paid is not punishment. Hell, sending him away now is probably a blessing for Roethlisberger.

I would find it a hell of a lot more admirable if the Steelers had done something when James Harrison was charged with assaulting his girlfriend a couple of years ago. Or if they didn't have such a shameful history of dealing with concussions and steroid abuse. Want to preach about morality? How about making sure Troy Polamalu can remember his own name 10 years from now.

Notice that this past season, when all the attention focused on Roethlisberger's concussion, they sat him for a week to be safe. But the year before, much more quietly, Polamalu never missed a game after suffering what was at least his seventh concussion since his freshman year of college. Where was the concern about safety then?Again, it is about public relations, not morality.

Some of the outraged masses really need to grow the fuck up.

    He shat on the brand.

    See ya.
