Sadly, I'm not sure that to the typical fan it would be all that different.

Then oop needs to encourage the NFLPA to strike for better language in the Conduct Policy and the CBA, because they signed off on this long ago - as did Roethlisberger when he signed his own contract.

So it is beyond your capacity to discuss whether or not it is a good thing for the NFL to legislate morality. Got it.

I have asked the question repeatedly. Maybe at some point somebody will come up with a response worthy of an adult. Where is the line? Domestic abuse? Cheating on a spouse? Shoplifting?

I'm not even saying the commissioner did the wrong thing here. I wrote a while back that I thought it should be two games with the understanding that if he even sneezes wrong he's done for a full season and Roethlisberger has the opportunity to knock this down to four.

That said, the commissioner is moving the line here. It is worth asking questions about. Yet some people can't get past their well-deserved hatred of Roethlisberger long enough to even consider it. And the truly comic part is they are the same people accusing me of allowing my emotions to interfere too much with my judgement.

    Exactly. Thank you, Inky.

I am stunned at how hard it has been for others to comprehend that.

Yeah, um . . . hey Inky, what's your favorite NFL team? really? It IS?! Wow, you don't say!

    I do! I do! I wanna think!

I think . . . you're acting like a fanboy. But you're couching it in some kind of righteous "Oh, the NFL shouldn't do this terrible thing, because . . .where do you draw the LINE?!?!?!?!!?!"

I think . . . you're sorely mistaken when you attribute anyone's support of Goodell's actions to some kind of abiding hatred for Ben Roethlisberger. Why would anyone who isn't a Bengals or Browns fan "HATE!!!!" Ben freaking Roethlisberger? Because we're all "JEALOUS!!!!!!!" of the almighty Steelers?

Come on. It's not like he's a little whiner like Peyton Manning, a Golden Boy like Tom Brady, or a Bust Who Should Forge a Mutual Suicide Pact With Al Davis like JaMarcus Russell. He's a dork who keeps trying to throw his career away, whether it's a motorcycle accident or waiting for girls in bars with his member flapping in the breeze. I hate that latter act, but I don't hate Roethlisberger.

You speak of "precedent!" Goodell has been setting prcedent for years, and it goes like this: You embarrass the National Football League, you put yourself in a position to get yourself in trouble, the court's decision is only a part of the hurt I intend to lay on you, your next season, and your wallet."

Where have you been? Goodell was obviously going to nail Roethlisberger. Again, Tagliabue's corpse isn't commish anymore.

Those who say "Fandork!" to your need to defend this bottom-feeder have much more of a leg to stand on than you with your "You hated him!! You always hated him!!!" soap opera-worthy rants.

    Is that enough thinking, OOP?

You know it won't be. But good post.

The next CBA is gonna look like it was written by Attila the Hun.

The commissioner (and individual teams) is going to have almost unlimited power to fine and suspend players for disciplinary reasons. And the avenues of appeal are going to be cut down to just about nothing.

Of course the players will go utterly over-the-moon berserk when they see this, but they'll have more important wars to fight: a 50%-neighborhood cut in the overall salary cap.

The next round of contract talks in the NFL, NBA and MLB are going to be reminiscent of the siege of Leningrad. We may see a year or so without any "major league" sports as we've known them.

I get it. So only Steelers fans have biases around here, right?

Again, Piotr, you can do better. You are really disappointing the hell out of me on this thread. And the schmuck who said you were kidding obviously needs to work on his reading comprehension, but I doubt he has the self-awareness to come on back and admit how wrong he was.

Again, am I arguing the suspension? No, I'm not. But you are too busy ranting to even read.

I'm trying to have a discussion. One of those topics is the commissioner extending his powers. You agree with that? Fine. Then say so like an adult rather than acting like a child. Basically, you are doing exactly what you accuse me of -- speaking from emotion rather than using your brain.

Yes, I did mention some people hating Roethlisberger. If people are going to rant about my biases, I'm going to point out theirs. Don't like it? Grow the fuck up and admit where you are coming from (and no, I'm not saying you hate Roethlisberger. You don't have a posting history that says that, but others around here do.)

Maybe all of those comic books did something to your brain. You think you can read minds. My advice to you is that you stop trying to read mine because you suck at it.

Come on, Piotr, you can do better. And I don't say that to be demeaning in any way or make myself feel better. No, I really mean it. I'm not being condescending. I believe in you.

    Yours in sincerity,
    oop

Yet another dazzling contribution by YGBANASS.

Piotr knows me well enough to know exactly where I'm coming from with that. You, on the other hand, don't really know much of anything.

I'm sure he's huddled in the corner cyring at the notion you're disappointed in him.
