I don't disagree with any of that, but the reactions go beyond being pissed. I'm pissed. Then again, I never owned any Roethlisberger jerseys or posters to send back in the first place.

You fabricated that those who put Pig Ben on a pedestal are the ones who sent back his jerseys.

No. I said sending back the jerseys was pointless and stupid and I said that some people put him on a pedestal and they need to grow the fuck up. I never said that every person who sent back the jersey put him on a pedestal. I'm sorry. I'll try to explain things more clearly for you in the future.

Big Ben is going to be completely disingenious and read some bullshit piece of crap written by his attorney's and edited by the Steelers public relations staff make a statement on Monday about his plight.

I'm sure it will be very sincere and well received...... ::)

  5. OTL, according to PFT, explored Roethlisberger and discovered - gasp! - he's a bit of an ass.

  6. There was a reference at some point to the fact that stories written about him when he came out of college being all about how he was humble, unassuming, etc.

So here's my question, and it's more of a journalism question than anything:

    Has he changed?

Or was that just a case of the media pack going with the easy narrative - i.e, "Highly regarded QB from a small MAC school - he's humble! Unassuming! Not like the entitled guys who come out of the big schools!" - then just fitting the reporting to the narrative, come hell or high water?

To me, that's one of the most interesting questions to come out of all this.

And if he has changed so drastically, is it the head injuries?

If it's us, the media... Jimminy, do we need to get our shit together.

Given that he suffered the most traumatic of those injuries doing something dumb (riding a motorcyle with no helmet and the wrong type of license), I doubt it.

Maybe he started behaving like an ass as soon as he was in a position to get away with it.

Do we really know the effects of multiple concussions yet, though?

I always think of that phenomenon where people get into car crashes and turn into sex addicts - not 'Tiger' sex addicts - real sex addicts. There's a medical name for it.

I see your point and I do think it was a good idea for the NFL to require that he get some kind of evaluation before returning to team activities.

That said, as uncomfortable as I am with the NFL legislating player morality, I am just as uncomfortable with anything that Roethlisberger can use to avoid taking the blame for his own actions. We may not know exactly what those actions are, but obviously the guy needs to make some changes.

It's like a superhero origin ... Pig Ben only developed the powers of superdouchebaggery after he hit his head on a windshield. Kinda like how young Matt Murdock gained his powers when toxic waste spilled into his eyes, helping him turn into Daredevil.

So instead of the man without fear, he would be the man without intelligence?
