BYH, some of the posters here are acting like what he did is actually a big deal. On its own, it isn't. That was my first point.

My second point is that I think the commish is going to latch on to any excuse to keep the suspension at six games. Roethlisberger just gave him one, which was stupid. Not horrible, but stupid.

I'm no lawyer, but whipping your dick out and urinating in public can be considered a sex offense in some states.

Steelers extend Mike Tomlin's contract through 2014.

Interesting that this came out today. I think the Steelers realize that 2010 is going to be a disaster, even if by some miracle Roethlisberger's suspension isn't upheld at six games and is only four. If Tomlin hadn't been extended before the season, they were going to have to hear rumors about him being in trouble all season.

Sorry but "on its own" doesn't apply to Roethlisraper. I agree it would be silly if Athlete X, who had never been in trouble with the law and was recognized as a generally decent human being, was getting harassed for pissing on a tree. But when you have got to at least pretend to be recognizing the error of your ways and you are pissing on a tree, well, you deserve everything you get and then some.

My hunch is there's no actual story here, that if anyone was pissing on a tree it wasn't Roethlisraper. But I also have less than zero sympathy for the guy if someone is trying to make a few bucks off his shitty name.

Somebody actually suggested that the idea of him pissing in public would somehow terrify the accuser in Georgia. That's what I was talking about. Utterly ridiculous.

I do think if he actually did piss in public, it's going to cost him two games this season -- six instead of four. If he can't even go a few months without doing something stupid, the commish has no reason to reduce it.

Out for the year over this, as somebody else suggested? That would be ridiculous. Even with Roethlisberger's recent history.

One of my good friends did jail time for pissing in an alley.

So, yeah, sometimes pissing in public is a deal.

Doesn't sound like that is the case here. The bigger issue for Roethlisberger is most likely his name turning up on a police report for ANYTHING.

Maybe brainless Ben should be suspended for the season for blatant stupidity.
Maybe the Rooneys should say "why do we want a moron running our offense?"

    Who are the Ronneys? :)

That is my point, spnited. This doesn't strike me as something that warrants a bigger punishment. It does strike me as something that warrants holding the suspension at six games rather than dropping it to four, which would have happened if he could actually stop behaving like a moron for a few months.

Isn't there anything the Steelers can do to, you know, KEEP BEN IN HIS FUCKING HOUSE?

I know, I know: It's not a crime to golf and not a crime to want to get out of the house and do something. Well, when you're an asshole who can't go anywhere without fucking up, you lose priviliges (sp) like leaving the house. The asshole is a magnet for negative attention, if not outright trouble. This is the NFL. Hire a goon or three to keep the guy inside 24/7 until camp, and then have those goons accompany him everywhere, even to take a piss. Inside.

Don Mattingly says this just isn't a big deal where he grew up.
