Gotta respect Skinner. A lot of coaches might have looked the other way for a guy who averages five blocks per game when his team is hunting a conference title.

Trivial side note about McClain's high school program, Penn Hills. The last Division I college basketball player from Penn Hills, Drew Schifino, was also dismissed permanently from his college team before his career was over. The difference being Schifino could actually play. He was West Virginia's leading scorer the season before he was cut loose.

So this means that BC will take the gaspipe earlier than normal this year?

Oh, the Eagles kind of took the gaspipe in losing already this season to Vermont, Providence and Duquesne.

The bad news obviously came suddenly since both played in Tuesday's victory over Miami.

Williams will be missed for his efficiency, of course. During his last game as an Eagle on Tuesday, he scored 10 points on four shots -- and also finished with six rebounds and three blocks in 23 minutes.

McClain hasn't done much this year -- or during any of his three seasons at BC.

A credit to Skinner, though, for keeping his morals ahead of his desire to win at all costs. Can't wait to hear more about this one.

I have to think Williams didn't just return to marijuana use, but did so in a way designed to draw attention to the act. Skinner has let some strange things slide over the years if he thought it might not be the player's total fault (there was one kid who was found huddling in his underwear outside his own room, having fled a threat about which he was very vague). In this case, the cuscumstances were such Skinner felt the players were aggressively defying him on a personal level.

  9. Please, stop with the pats on the back for Skinner. He could have done this last year. The guy appears to give his players more rope than just about anybody. Is it me, or does it seem like he constantly has a couple of guys on the roster with character issues (and then bristles when he is reminded of this). From where I stand, this was long overdue. But at least he finally stopped apologizing for this type of behavior.

And yes, you'll see Williams in the League.

Bob Huggins is mortified that programs would recruit players such as this.

And to think that Jimmy O'Brien couldn't get a couple class kids into BC since their SAT scores were a couple points too low.

    It's not just you.

There was Andrew Bryant, another Texas import who got busted in a bar brawl, threatened an ex-girlfriend, somehow got connected to guns and drugs in his dorm (why else would a druggie pistol-whip you) and finally got kicked out of school. He finished up his eligibility last year at an NAIA school in the Quad Cities.

There's something about Boston that makes Texas ballers go wild, apparently.
