    I don't know this first-hand, so don't hold me to it, but I hear through the grapevine that Nichols' and David Moore's resumes have been received at the Star-Telegram. It'll be interesting to see if the S-T creates positions for one or both, because I'm not aware of any openings there at the moment.

    Would you two please take your juvenile bullshit somewhere else (for instance, Fark)? The adults are attempting to have a serious conversation.

    I fail to see anything juvenile with that post. If a major metro hires someone who got the previous stop sued successfully for libel, I think that's an issue.

    I have no control over the fucktard driving the caboose.

    randy harvey was on a toronto radio station today talking about the decision to cut back on the hockey coverage. in addition to calling it a "niche sport" he said the times was using a stringer at the british open.

    The DMN columnist blitz has apparently already begun.

    Three articles on today's cover:

    • a Kevin Sherrington column from Thibodaux, La. covering Peyton Manning's passing skills camp;

    • a Kevin Blackistone column on Bonds dodging the federal bullet and how baseball remains squirming over him; and

    • a Bill Nichols column from England marveling at how rain-softened greens and no wind can help 67 golfers break par. (He got around to McDowell and Tiger in the fourth graf.)

    The middle was dominated by a graphics package of Floyd Landis' comeback in the TdF.

    And we wonder why people don't buy newspapers anymore. You'd think something directly related to Dallas or at least Texas (it's a big state) might squirm its way onto the cover.

    They hardly write local features or enterprise stories any more. The summer used to be filled with project stories.

    Now it's all about crappy packages tied up in a pretty bow.

    It's hard to predict what the effect of this will be. I worked for a paper that cut a fifth of its newsroom and dumped a third of its circulation within a year. I worked for another paper that cut nearly a third of its newsroom and circulation went UP about 2 percent within a year. We may not like what's happening in Dallas, but there's not always a predictable cause and effect.
