    Wow, that's a quality stringer.

BTW, turns out Sherrington was at the camp because his son was participating in it. Wonder if the DMN would have sent Kevin to Thibodeaux if is kid wasn't there.

If that's their approach, I think the "cause and effect" outcome will be apparent -- not good.

Might turn out OK for Fort Worth, though.

I doubt any of this will affect FW too much. They already own Tarrant County and seem to have little interest in expanding much into Dallas County. I'd say they probably are more concerned about increasing their penetration inside FW city limits.

Maybe, but remember, they're under very new ownership.

I used to hate the Doink thing when I would play Q-Bert.

They had a Q-bert game in the Sahara arcade, right next to the Journey game. As soon as I killed legions of bad guys with Steve Perry and his bullet-shooting microphone, I'd waste 40 or so quarters at a time with Q-bert. I think I liked the doink.

I certainly liked the Law & Order "doink-doink!"

I always liked Elevator Action. I became a master of killing in all the various ways:

    1) Direct shot.
    2) Kick to the face.
    3) Shot to the light fixture, sending it crashing down onto a villain's head.
    4) Crushing a villain with the elevator.
    5) Tricking one into falling ass over appetite down the elevator shaft.

I think I'm leaving one out.

  11. The alt-news Dallas blogs are all over a memo from DMN publisher Jim Moroney about a blue-ribbon committee he will head up (with president, ME and editorial ed) to determine who stays and who goes. Here's the "pertinent" passage:

"Bob Mong, George Rodrigue, Keven Willey and I are acting as a steering committee for a "Newspaper Project Team." This team has the assignment to carefully consider the recent conjoint research (and any other pertinent research we have done) and build from the ground up, the newspaper they believe best serves the needs of our core readers and fulfills the journalistic responsibilities we have to serve our community. As part of this work, they will also recommend the newsroom staffing and resources they believe are needed to publish this paper at our standards for quality."

Report is due Aug. 9, when they'll be steering about 75 people right out the door ...

"blue-ribbon committee" makes me think of how excited the Springfielders got when Mayor Quimby declared a "blue-ribbon committee" would get to the bottom of whatever issue it was.

    blue-ribbon committee. that's rich.
