Hondo should stick to being a judgmental idiot jackass in politics.

In matters of real life, he's a quadruple judgmental idiot jackass.

Would it help if I stopped making fantasy basebally comments followed by "hi spnited!" on regular baseball threads?

Put me down as someone who quit because of price. I said I'd never pay $2 for a pack of smokes. The first time -- I recall very clearly that I paid $2.07 for that pack on Jan. 14, 1990 -- was the last.

Liesl, strength to you. Please find a way, if not for yourself, then for those who love you.

    >>Usually it takes some kind of profound revelation in their life to get them to quit.<<

It was three weeks ago today that the planets aligned for me. I had been thinking about quitting for a while, I guess ever since the wheezing started during the day instead of while lying in bed at night, but I digress...

Walk into my usual lottery/magazine/smoke shop to get my American Spirit Lights, and I ask for my usual allotment (3 packs at a time), and I pull out the usual $25 (they cost $22.50 at the time), and the guy behind the counter said "$25.50." He then explained that the company raised the price in advance of the tax that was coming today (from $7.50/pack to $8.50/pack).

Later that night, I saw the TV commercial with the guy in the doctor's office and every three seconds, the doctor kept opening up the door repeating a different malady: "you have lung cancer," "you have emphysema," "you have bladder cancer..." etc. I decided right then and there that was not going to be me in 10 years. And I'm only 41.

    That was my profound revelation.

It's now been two and a half weeks. If I have to keep buying the patch to keep me off the smokes longer than the proscribed time, I'll do so. Hell, it's cheaper than buying that pack a day.

Ha. Fair point. Just give the board fair warning if you do quit so we can all run for cover offer to assist in any way we can.

There are no other people around me when I smoke except other smokers. It is very rare for me to ever smoke around someone else who is not a smoker.

Someone asked what it would take for me to quit. I've said it before to those close to me. I need a rehab program. I physically cannot deal with the mental or physical withdrawls or the detoxification process.

And the tough love that hondo speaks of would cause all 115 pounds of my petiteness to kick the living shit out of him and any other living thing that dares to step within arms reach of me. I've tried before. Many times. Ask anyone that has ever had to deal with it. I've jokingly said before that I need to be in a padded cell for about two to three weeks to get through it. I realize that this is not the way it is with everyone who quits smoking, but it is the way for me.

I would like to see some programs in place to help those that are currently addicted. In my case, continually raising the prices is not the answer.

Oh, we need to make this happen. :)

Sorry, Lies. I don't mean to make light of your problem at all. hondo is just ticking me off more than usual on this thread.

You and spnited are right. There should be help like that available and it just isn't there. Failing that, every little bit helps.
