No one has said 2006 US soccer?

Actually, Dan never made it to Barcelona. He no-heighted in the pole vault in the Olympic Trials and failed to make the team.

However, he really was the greatest athlete ever (at least at the time). At a meet later that summer, Dan broke the world record in the decathlon. And four years later, he won his Olympic gold in Atlanta.

Really, his only failure was choking under the giant spotlight of the Dan vs. Dave campaign. But that was a pretty big honkin' failure.

By the way, Dave only managed bronze in Barcelona.

I dont think those are "biggest" failures/
Soccer was a medium shot to get out of its group; losing out to Ghana instead of the Czechs was.
As for 2004 hoops, the handwriting was on the wall from previous problems -- from Olympics, to Pan-Am to World Championships... it wasn't a matter of if, but when

    Most defending Super Bowl champions.

    And Tony Mandarich.

I was going to say Shawn Abner, but he did spend parts of five seasons in the majors, and there are quite a few No. 1 draft picks who never did that.

You clearly are da man, da man. Thanks for the clarrification.
It's been a few years so I couldn't remember. There are too many meaningless song lyrics and movie quotes taking up the space that should be reserved for Dan and Dave.  ;)

Fantastic arm, but absolutely no other skills. No mobility. Weak ability to read defenses and adjust. Can't run a play fake to save his life.
