They're my words, though I have no earthly idea why you'd question that.

And there's no reason to be so defensive, whether or not your ancestors can be traced to the , slave trade, black codes, home rule, states' rights, Jim Crow, segregation, etc. I'm not holding it against you.

And unlike the stupid things that blacks do, the stupid things that whites do have never been used to characterize an entire race. That's why we've been reluctant to share our angst.

    I agree.

    Just like thrash metal.

It will be purely small club material in a decade or so.

Someone posted that Vegas turned into a black neighborhood, experienced things that happen in a black neighborhood on a daily basis.

But that poster made the mistake of equating socioeconomically-depressed, miseducated neighborhoods (see Pitts' quote below) with black neighborhoods. Every black neighborhood isn't a ghetto, and every ghetto isn't a black neighborhood.

I think that's probably the crux of why people are dogging you on this.

Most people here work in newspapers, and the internet threatens their jobs. To them, this is a perfect example of the internet's "lower standards," and it drives them crazy.

I know somebody who was there, and I consider him a heavy-hitter in journalism. He says you're dead on with the AOL column.

But the truth is, Stern is well aware of the problem, and no amount of corner working is going to get him to move the game overseas. The problem will get worse before it gets better, just like Freaknik.

But you've raised the issue, and now the media is aware-- the media at large-- including those who don't cover the NBA. And now that the taboo's been broken, and the media is aware, next the public will become more aware of the problem.

Why don't I like you? Because you were a butt to me on here. But it's not important to this discussion.

I obviously can't comment on what happened at All-Star weekend, I wasn't there. My trips to Vegas for fights in the early '90s, I noticed many edgy people of all races and creeds and stepped lightly throughout.
But it seems fair to summarize that Jason went expecting a good time, and he kind of had one, except for some things that spoiled it. Since these things are issues he cares deeply about, and has written about in the past, I'm not surprised he changed his mind about the experience by his second column. If he'd only mentioned that fact in the AOL piece, CJR wouldn't have any call to criticize him, let alone write about it.
But Jason, I deeply disagree the standards of a family newspaper and the internet are different. Maybe they are on my little blog, but AOL is a gazillion dollar public information company with shrunken sphincter to match.

That was Sportsbruh, living up to his usual level of idiocy. And the real mistake involved is any of us reading what he writes and responding.

The problem that I and others have with your stand is that you ARE painting white people with a broad brush when saying that we have to take responsibility for our ancestors' mistakes.

As far as I know, my ancestors owned no slaves, committed no atrocities. And I'm not going to pick up on white liberal guilt because somebody tells me to. I will only take responsibility for what I have done.

You misunderstood me. I'm not asking you take responsibility for anything your ancestors did or didn't do. Remember: "No guilt. Just understanding."
