you can call the Bloods and Crips and all the other gangbangers whatever you like. i'll call 'em the Black KKK because they evoke the same fear....

and i'm sure you wouldn't have uttered a word had i just stuck to calling 'em N-word-a. we're comfortable with that.

And you'll still be wrong. And, no, they don't "evoke the same fear" because they don't have the force of the civil law behind them. It's a bit of talk-show sloganeering.

This is utter garbage. The KKK along with the redeemers systematically stripped african americans of their initial rights during the reconstruction period after the civil war not only through physical intimidation, but government sanctioned legislation.

To state that the Bloods and crips carry the same significance over our community is not only disingenous, but the same old lazy journalism i've come to expect of you.

You obviously know little on the Klan and their activities but boastfully speak as if you've done the homework to compare the two.

Why is it that all these folks keep logging in just to attack Jason? How many screen names you gonna create, Scoop?

I don't think I'm Scoop, and I'm not here to attack anybody.
However, this thread started because Mr. W wanted to pre-empt a CJR post by tossing things to his Amen Corner hereabouts. The CKR piece was not about "bojangling" or all the rest of it. It was about two columns from the same person with two different views of the same situation, and about the problems of serving several audiences at the same time. Period. Instead, it gets tossed in here, and people start arguing about the columns themselves -- or, more often, complimenting the author -- than dealing with the issue that prompted this thread in the first place.
Fine. He got what he wanted. But the KKK business is really bad writing and even worse thinking.

this type of reaction gets in the way of dialogue.

I meant the people with 1 or 2 posts. Not you.

Is this equivalent to when the people at the Redskins fan site started showing up en masse?

Your "fairytale" analogy continues to be simplistic because merely comparing bodycounts vastly marginalizes the spectrum of activites that the KKK was involved in. Furthermore, the KKK pre-dates the bloods, crips and mainstream hip hop by 100+ years. In short, there is no interpretation out there that makes your analogy sensical.

You know, you can drop the Amen Corner right about now.

You don't have the market cornered on being right. Perhaps some of us agree with him ... and disagree with you.

At least you have the refugees from the hip-hop message board as YOUR Amen Corner.
