it can be a "we" thing. but as long as there are quotes like.....
Out of wedlock birthrates of 70% are not helping your image very much.
there will never be a "we", practicing the status quo. just like the brawl that happened in the NBA......they were labelled as thugs and gangstas and savages. let it happen in the nhl/mlb and its laughed off as "part of the game". the players are called "enforcers" as a term of respect. please dont tell me that it has nothing to do with who is doing what, where. so until "america" recognizes those of us that might not "speak so well", then we will always be "them"...

Sorry, Chee, but your belligerent attitude toward someone who's trying to meet you half way is completely uncalled for. I'm done speaking with you. I'd rather talk to someone who actually gives a shit instead of someone who's filled with rage against someone. Who, I really couldn't care less.

I refuse to take responsibility for someone else's comments, nor do I think it's adult of you or anyone else to use those comments as an excuse to reject any overtures by others to meet anyone half way.

So let's take your post point by point, shall we?

First of all, the NBA fight that prompted all those comments were because the fight actually went into the stands and involved the fans. Hockey, baseball and football don't have any sort of recent history of that.
That being said, though, to claim negative terms are never used is bullshit. Hockey players are called goons when they fight like that.

Second, like it or not, we share a common language in this country, and anyone who doesn't "speak so well" is not given anywhere near as much credence. But for you to claim it's racially based is again bullshit.

Look at some of the posters here who butcher the language and spelling. People ridicule them not because they're black (we can't see your color through your screen name) but because this is a journalism site and anyone who can't spell or use correct grammar is ridiculed. Even my ex-girlfriend, who posts here.

Whites are ridiculed for not "speaking well" when they come from the south with heavy accents and folksy sayings. To claim blacks are the only ones who feel this is bullshit.

How about you quit playing the role of angry victim and let's talk like adults who are serious in fixing problems? Blacks, as a whole, need to work on their part, and whites need to do the same. And until EVERYONE understands that, it's just going to be a stupid-assed war of words.

Values over feelings man.

Values over feelings.

I didn't mean to hurt your feelings so, in all honesty, do not get put off by the tone of my dialogue.

Find the flaws in my points so I can better myself rather than categorizing me.

that's all I ask.

If anything this thread has prompted a discussion on race.
At lunch today, me and a buddy talked about white-black relations and how things were.
He felt it boiled down to masculinity, black men are more masculine than white men and that it all flowed from there. Well that and some socio-economic factors.
Take fights, as one example, you're more likely to see a fight in the stands at a basketball game between Jackson State and Alcorn State, two historically black colleges than you would see a fight in the stands at a game between Delta State and Mississippi College.
Or howyou more likely to see brawls at something like Freaknik, than Bonnaroo.
I don't think that is racist, because you more likely to see a fight at a trailer park than a middle class neighborhood.
It also extends over into Europeans. The Fighting Irish or the war-like Germans, why the French are viewed as cheese eating surrender monkeys. The French are considered more feminine than the Germans and so forth.
I thought it was an interesting angle, I'm not sure if I agree with all of it, but it was interesting conversation.

now which fight are you talking about? the fight where a fan threw a beer onto a player and then proceeded to get pummelled? or the fight that unintentionally spilled into the camera men at courtside? not saying either of them are right, c'mon. the brawl in detroit was started by the fan. the players fighting that happened in new york, unfortunately, involved fans because of the close proximity. there was no malice towards fans. so i really dont see how "thug", "gangsta" or any other term was warranted. again, it doesnt happen in hockey or baseball like that. but im not supposed to wonder why. interesting....
That being said, though, to claim negative terms are never used is bullshit. Hockey players are called goons when they fight like that.
and they are lauded for it. they are even sought after. see brashear, donald. his job is to be a goon for the sens to make sure crosby doesnt get hurt.

you know, i have never heard "he speaks so well for a southerner/northerner/midwesterner/etc". but thats just my sensitivity flairing up. of course, my experience can just be sluffed off by someone who doesnt share any semblance of what i go through on a daily basis. so if you dont say, i guess no one else does either. you know, this is really informative....

ahh, there we go. the "stop complaining" card. always the trump in a racial debate. i am and have been talking like an adult. you would like for me to stifle my opinions. on a message board? c'mon. part of fixing the problem is knowing where the other side is coming from. pointing out that everything they believe is bullshit is really going to go along way. so you continue on your crusade to help america, and ill do my part. deal??

Exactly - discussing race and pushing envelope without a lot of real name calling and hard feelings. No hold barred discussions are needed. Put everything out on the table and see where it goes.

BTW was your friend's name Jules Winnfield by any chance?

10. Re: Hip Hop apologists attack Whitlock...

Are you more likely to see a fight in the stands at a SWAC game? Are there data? Or is it just, you know, a feeling folks have?

I don't know about data, but I know from my personal experience of covering HBCU athletics and minor-league hocky that I have never seen fights in the stands at hockey, but I have seen fights at the basketball games.

Anecdotal data is most dangerous kind.
That said, damn, you've got some polite puck fans in your neck of the woods.
