I'm delighted by the careful way this was written. Reading it, and hearing it in Rusty's voice, I see what he did there.

Which is exactly what the Bama/Auburn crowd will do. :)

Translation, he doesn't have the manpower or the talent that he once had. It was an obvious move.

McDonalds: Lots of other places to get fast food.
AT&T: Lots of other places to get phone service.
Ford: Lots of other companies make cars.
Nike: Eh, people can get sneakers elsewhere.
Hanes: Oh well, other companies are making underwear.

Those companies at least come out with products people want to buy.

Newspapers/websites could too if they invested in putting out a decent product. The idea that people can get their college football, statehouse, business news, whatever in another place leaves you with a paper that doesn't have much in it and isn't worth buying.

Maybe print ads on the web will provide the revenue newspapers need, or a place for moms to hang out and share ideas in a message board or blog format.

If the fucking Birmingham News gets to the point of "Lots of places to find college football," just put a bullet in Old Yeller and roll credits.

The Pipeline tells me Huntsville will have a 10 p.m. deadline.

Holy shit. That gets 'em what, five or six Bama and Auburn games apiece?

Agreed. That "Football U" section is probably a pain to put together every Saturday, but SEC and national college football lovers eat this stuff up like smothered and covered hash browns every day at Waffle House. You could argue the football preview in late August, plus that section on Sundays, is a prime reason to buy the paper.

    Wow. That's ridiculous.
