That it needs to stop. That's all.

Don't know if this was a fluke or a new strategy, but the Chevron at the exit nearest me now sells the Montgomery Advertiser. Previously, the edge of their circulation was about 30 miles south of here.

Can't blame them for expanding, can you?

The Tuscaloosa News is sold at the Publix in Homewood. So I would think strategery.

It's called common sense. It's only 92 miles between Birmingham and Montgomery and Gannett has the resources to flood the area with the Advertiser and USA/Today. There's no competition now and there's a chance to pick up readership.

Can't say I'm shocked that other papers are trying to step in and fill the void. The question is, will they start reaching their coverage up there to include schools in that area as well?

I think in time, that may come to pass JCM.

Decatur and Chattanooga should be making moves toward Huntsville and northeast Alabama, too, but Decatur is cash-strapped and unable.

I know Chattanooga reaches over and gets Jackson County and Scottsboro, I'm not sure how far down and west into Alabama they get. I don't think they get Fort Payne. Plus, they reach into Georgia all the way down to Calhoun, so going further into Alabama might be beyond their means.

I wish they'd flood the paper with more than a six-page news section first. If the two racks were side by side, I'd put my quarters in for the T-News, and not just for the Bama coverage.

Give it some time. Your wish may come true yet.
