This email comes first. Then the one about either furloughs or a pay cut. Then comes the email saying that the furlough or the pay cut didn't cut enough and then comes the next step...

I'm going to politely disagree (in honor of SF_Express) and I have to think we'll be fine... At least considering that the last two years we've had hours cut and furloughs, but none this year and we've had the best advertising year we've had the last decade. Nobody else covers our area. Plus I'm at the weekly, so that helps. But I doubt our dailies will be cutting back (unless it's on Monday papers because who the hell buys those in Alabama...we don't care about the NFL for the most part.)

Huntsville covered the Titans and Mobile covered the Saints. Got to think that's going the way of the dodo.

Hey, you can cover the team all you want on your own time.

Huntsville needed to focus on covering Huntsville. That's where a lot of papers got into trouble.

Acquaintances at all 3 Alabama papers are hearing that they'll learn their fates in the next 7-14 days. Supposedly via a letter in the mail.

    Surely not.

I'd like to hope they'll actually have a meeting in person rather than a letter. But with the way this business is going, who knows.

Definitely learning via mail within that timeframe Pencil Dick stated.

Do they think they will need fewer people in this?

I couldn't have said it better dixiehack. I have one question about this move. They are assuming that many people own a computer or laptop. The fact is many Americans, especially those in Alabama and Louisiana, don't.

Ugh is right. This detail in particular:

Nothing good can come of that. Those same comment sections already are great for anonymous trolls trashing reporters.

When reporters are encouraged to respond to these idiots, it only detracts from any serious reporting they are still allowed to do.
