Black Eyed Peas to play Super Bowl halftime show?

Madonna would freak people out. I don't see that ever happening.

Elton John has enough appeal that I could see him doing it, but I doubt he'll ever be asked. I think Billy Joel would be perfect.

As far as "Why would anyone want this gig?"

Uh, it's the most watched TV show of the year and they're paid over $1 million to play three songs.

Well, unless you count Shania Twain (2003), Clint Black, Tanya Tucker, Travis Tritt, or The Judds (all 1994). But yeah, Chesney and maybe Carrie Underwood (might be awkward if the Cowboys make it) would be a great show.

If ever a group was not of the status to play halftime of the Super Bowl, the Black Eyed Peas would be it.

Forgot about Shania Twain. And the '94 show was so long ago that it kind of proves the point.

He could dedicate "Local Girls" to Antonio Cromartie.

If you compare them to the careers of the bands of the last five years or so, you're right, but at least they're current and relevant and the last time they had a current and relevant act was U2.

Billy Joel makes a lot of sense. Dunno if the NFL thinks Elton John is wholesome enough or whatever. Not that I agree, but ...

This. Glad to see we're not going to be stuck with a bunch of 50-year-old men who are merely relics these days on stage, simply because Janet Jackson had a wardrobe malfunction years ago. I loved the Prince show, though.

As someone mentioned previously, who the fuck watches the halftime show? Halftime is for refilling, refueling and going to the bathroom.

Billy Joel did the national anthem at XLI.

I actually thought a likely candidate would be the Eagles — they're back together and Don Henley is a Texas native and UNT grad.

Enough with the guys who made their mark in music 35 years ago!

This board never looks as dated as it does when these Super Bowl threads come up.

    And get off my lawn!
