OK, OK, whatever. You're right. I give it up.

On a small scale, it's also black monday for anyone who was covering games for SportsTicker. While many of us have other jobs, all reporters were told to not cover games and since we're independent contractors, there's no severance and no pay for the rest of the month because why would anyone want to do a goodwill gesture like that? Goes to show where loyalty and dedication get you when the company is willing to sell out to a competitor.

    LOL.
Right now, there are a lot of people out here hurting. If the¥'re not getting hit, they know someone who has. It can be extremely depressing. If getting on here can help someone cope with the madness, then so be it.
By the way, not that I've been keeping score, but this is like the fourth straight bad Monday for journalism. Starting to dislike Mondays more and more.

You know, a thread like this is depressing, but at least it's honest. I'd rather read a thread like this than wade through some of the emails which showed up in my in-box last week from our oh-so-happy HR rep, who termed the week "Operation Celebration" to honor some of our winners in company and state contests - doing so with brownies, cookies and ice cream.
Yeah, because nothing says "be happy about your paycut/furlough/buyout" than freaking ice cream.
How about being honest with us instead of spinning everything?
I"m just glad I was out of town covering the NCAA Tournament - I couldn't stand to be around the office during that crap.

What? No free food for the day shift with the night shift getting the leftovers?

I wasn't there, but in this day and age, it was probably grab, root and growl, with the night shift getting crumbs if they were lucky.

Can you take the option of 10-32 hour weeks or 20-36? I've seen that as an option with some Newhouse places. Not that it's any less painful, but it spreads the damage out...

Yeah. Spend your furlough doing something you enjoy. Take it as a full time. Don't split the days up.

I was on furlough a few weeks ago. Spent my first day on the phone filing for unemployment. Spent the other days in Vegas. Probably not the best financial decision, but I did it on a budget and it was the best time I had in a long time. I didn't worry about work.

My next furlough is going to be in June, at my aunt's lakehouse. Free accommodations, no phone service, internet or cable. Just a lake, beer, burgers and friends and lots of sun.

I know its going to be another great week. Shitty that I won't be getting paid, but I can actually get out of town. The two days I originally had off in June will be used later. Maybe for a fall trip to see some B10 football, or maybe I'll never get them back because I'll be laid off when third quarter comes. But either way, my two furlough weeks are going to be the best two weeks of my year.
