I'm stunned Jessica didn't carry to ME to the elevator and back to her office instead of watching her hobble on her crutches.

Looks like someone already has slapped her silly.

Wow, what a contemplative pose. Ugh.

Yeah, that was a tear-jerking bit of color there, eh? Poor thing, hobbling off after laying off 10 families following perhaps the most stupid speech in the history of the Trib, which considering Thelan worked there, says a lot.

Miss Intern seems real happy to swallow the company line from an authority figure without any question. Boy, that's the trait I'd want in my journalists.

RE: The intern's post. If you haven't looked at the post, you should do so. The feedback in just the past hour alone has been overwhelming. I'd say there are about 60% that are bashing her, and the rest are saluting her.

I wrote a very strongly worded response to her post on the site.

I'm not a sports journalist, but I have many, many friends who are (I was a news copy editor). What happened to Scott is disgusting. I haven't spoken to Scott since I left the Trib a few years ago, but he really is a great guy.

I do have to give her credit in that she's not taking down the bashers. She's giving everyone equal say. A news reporter (and good friend) went off on her at the Trib newsroom about an hour ago after Janet came up and personally thanked her for writing the piece and supporting her. Can we say "kiss ass"?

Honestly, these interns have got to quit blogging. The couple cases we've seen recently show just why blogs need to be managed and edited, and I have to wonder whether these were, at all.

If this is the future of journalism, then journalism really is dead.

Does this girl, or her ME, for that matter, really think that we don't know, and feel, exactly what's going on in the business? That we're really such imbeciles that we don't see and understand it, probably in a more productive way than they do?

Do they not know that they're preaching to the darned choir, and not to their enemies?

We've discussed the old model, potential new models, managing resources, the need for revenue production and to go back to basics, at least in terms of content and coverage, ad nauseum.

And we've come up with more innovations and possible solutions than a lot of the people charged with doing that.

Yes, please, lets torpedo the career of a young woman who's actually intensely interested in our troubled business because of something she wrote in a (somewhat) ill-advised blog when she was just starting out. That's a fucking fabulous idea.

A lot of raw nerves out there right now, understandably. But again, let's not lose our minds.

Besides, if she never gets hired, she can never know the joy of getting laid off as part of the paper's innovation.
