Laid is a pretty easy word, SF. Not like she has problems with a word that a lot of people struggle with, such as definitely.

All right, that was over the top by me.

    It still amused me, though.

Can't really agree, but Angola, OK with that.

I have words I still have problems with -- at 52, and with a reasonable rep in the business.

Since when is an intern a voice speaking on behalf of the newsroom and newspapers. This reads like a 20-year-old angling, desperately, to be part of the new dynamic for the new frontier. You go, girl!

I know your rep, and it is legit.

Like I said, I was just amused.

Sorry, Angola, the "words I still have trouble with" was for SC. Bad punctuation on my part. All is well.

I found it interesting (unless I really missed it) that she specifically never addressed Andy Staples post there.

I was thinking the same thing. It's not like he ripped her apart. In fact, he complimented her while educating her at the same time. My guess is once she realized she had nothing to come back with, especially when he shot down her profit loss argument, she chose to remain silent.

This thread -- what happened to Scott, how the Trib is responding to the downturn and the intern's mindset -- has done more to horrify me about this business than any other thing I've read in the past two years.

I have so many things running through my mind right now but I'll just leave it at this: Godspeed, Scott. I knew you from your Rays' days and just crossed paths with you last summer on the college beat. You are an inspired writer, a selfless soul and a consummate professional. You have good karma, my friend, therefore I know -- KNOW -- you'll end up with something much better soon.

Now in a few days, after I've choked down all this bile, I'll unload on the Trib. Someone earlier mentioned the intern as a sort of messenger in all this and I think that's true as far as the substance of her posts. However, I consider her mindset to be a valuable insight into the makeup of the next generation of journalists.

The verdict: Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Tampa will have a writer in Gainesville. Details being worked out.

Forgive me for saying this, but does an intern really have any business at a staff meeting about layoffs?

I'm interested to hear more on this one, especially since the people inside I spoke to earlier today have been led to believe that Gainesville and Tallahassee are both no more. If this is true, they damn well better call Scott back and offer him that position. Anything less deserves a burning at the stake.
