The plan they are working on involves someone else currently on staff - won't say the name until it gets worked out but it is not Scott.

My thought exactly. Interns, before the Internets (maybe that's where the word originated), never had the forum to make complete asses of themselves to a national audience. By and large, they knew their place and kept their mouths shut regarding the grown-ups' business.

Filters are down, entitlement and mouthiness is up and now they have to take their chances like the rest of us, when they really ought to be observing and cautiously making their mistakes in the minor leagues. Problem is, the whole damn industry has been dragged down to the minor league level.

Well then Moddy, I didn't think I would be saying this so soon into the thread, but somehow the Trib is sinking lower than dirt if this indeed is the case.

How in everything that's holy can anyone justify canning a writer the quality of Scott for "geographic reasons", defend it by saying the paper is going hyperlocal and we are not to consider the St. Pete Times the competition anymore, and then announce that the "geographic reason" isn't an issue anymore when it comes to Gainesville so we are going to move another staffer into that city?!?

Did our trusty intern not transcribe her notes from the meeting accurately when she summarized Janet's explanation of Scott's dismissal by saying one more reporter needed to stay in Tampa?

This is sounding more and more sinister by the minute.

Why I don't want to post a name or anything until it is done. My first reaction was a lot like yours: Wait just a got damn minute.

OK. OK. Don't blow a gasket. As you can imagine, this is a very sensitive issue right now, especially to those of us who know Scott personally and are still reeling over the news.

Not blowing a gasket at you. I mean my reaction in general was a lot like yours. We are on the same side here.

Lord knows when I was this intern's age I figured anyone in the biz older than me to be a dinosaur and that I knew everything about journalism and newspapers.
I just didn't post my rants and bitches on a blog that the whole world could see. If the web had been around 30-plus years ago, I would have been beaten to death with a pica pole by any number of grizzled vets who it turned out were pretty damn smart.
As someone else mentioned, the Younger Generation who spends their time texting and posting have no filters (and damn sure no editors). It's diarreha of the keyboard.
I hope the people who run the Tampa Trib and Media General wind up on a street corner with signs that read "Will Manage (Poorly) For Food."

Gotcha. I guess the "Wait just a god damn minute" remark threw me off. Keep fighting the good fight in terms of getting us the true facts. We appreciate you. ;D

Yeah, that was NOT directed at you. It was my reaction to the "going to Gainesville" news.
So was my reaction to the name. Not that the person isn't good, to the contrary. Just not what I expected.

Thanks for the clarification. So based on what you know as of this moment. is there any way this news will make sense as far as it pertains to what happened to Carter?
