    I would guess that when people say they shot someone thinking they were an intruder (which is a surprisingly common occurrence) they are lying 99 percent of the time.

    Even given the benefit of the doubt, I think anyone who uses that excuse deserves jail time for discharging a firearm without knowing who or what the hell you are shooting at.

    Whatever his defense is, I'm sure he won't have a leg to stand on in court.

    Too soon?

  6. A neighbor heard shouting at the home before the shooting.

    Just waiting for the "How did a good guy turn bad?" stories to appear, which always ignore the fact the subject was probably bad all along.

    Police say the intruder bit did not come from them. And there were previous domestic incidents at the house. Violent home invasions are a huge issue in South Africa so maybe he's going to try and pull that off as a defense. Or use Charlize Theron's mom's defense and say it was self-defense.

    If you plan to follow the story from this point, it might be worth your time to go back and read the New York Times Magazine story written by Michael Sokolove and published last January. A few choice excerpts: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/22/magazine/oscar-pistorius.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

    I remember reading that and thinking that there might just be a loose screw somewhere in his mind, and there might be.

    That can go either way, though, right?

    (1) "Loose screw" means man is more likely to shoot his girlfriend dead;

    (2) "Loose screw" means homeowner is more likely to shoot suspected intruder first, ask questions later.

    Perhaps NBC should have checked local police records before devoting so much TV time to him?
