It's not just old-world workers. There are a few of us 20-somethings out here who find the site's business practices deplorable.

I know B/R does have a good eye for talent and works to help their better writers become more recognizable. But it's dishonest to talk about all the brilliance on the site while still pissing the mattress.

If you want to exclude all bleacherreport.com stuff from your Google results, just search like this:

    (search term) -bleacherreport.com

For example, this would return LeBron James stories from all sites except bleacherreport.com:

    LeBron James -bleacherreport.com

Or if you don't want to see any story that even mentions Bleacher Report (regardless of what site that story is on), you would do:

    (search term) -"Bleacher Report"

This should effectively remove bleacherreport.com stories from a LeBron James search; it would also exclude LeBron James stories that happen to contain the phrase "Bleacher Report" on all other sites (from ESPN.com to PodunkPress.com):

    LeBron James -"Bleacher Report"

I realize that 95 percent of us know how to use Google; just thought this might save a few folks a couple of minutes here and there. It could be the difference between working a grueling 12 hours or a leisurely 11 hours and 55 minutes, I guess.

    Schottey,

Who are some of your BR writers worth following?

What are some of your (meaning BR, not you personally) articles that you're proud that BR has produced?

Not trying to flame, but I think the above COULD help as far as your cred.

    Schottey,

Just checked out your BR profile and I have three things to say.

    1. You are defending to the death a company that isn't even paying you. Internship for credit? Child, please. Go find a newspaper. Even in this depressed economy you should get paid for what you write. Judging by your e-mail address, we are the same age. I've been through the entire process of trying to get paid to write. It is tough. But you should get paid. Working for free essentially tells your bosses that your written word, your opinion, is not worth anything.

    2. Spend less time working for BR and more time writing for the highlight reel. That's a damn good blog supported by legit writers and legit newspaper company. It will look better on your resume.

    3. The last comment on your BR page is a spam post about viagra.

    I thought Schottey managed interns?

That's not what his page says.

BTW, isn't Bleacher Report a little too old of a company to get VC funding? $10.5 million isn't a lot, and it probably means the newspaper deals are just for show, but don't bring in much dough.

No idea. But after looking at your avatar I could certainly go for some Hardee's. Haven't eaten there in like a decade. I don't think we have many in Michigan.

@mustangj17 "Managing Editor FOR college internship at B/R"

I help run the for-credit college internship at B/R. Graduated from college in '09. Thanks for the kind words, but I enjoy my job and believe the company is headed in the right direction.

Also, I would write for the Highlight Reel more, but it (technically) doesn't exist. MLive shut it down. I will probably do some work for them in the next few months though. Last year I helped supplement their draft coverage.

Man, I'd talk to my employer about that title if I were you.

Serious question, Schottey, and I think a number of young journalists with aspirations of covering major college or pro sports might be interested in the answer. How is it that you graduated college in 2009, yet have "covered the Vikings for over five years," which you claimed on a different thread? Did you cover the NFL since high school, and if so, in what capacity? Or did you decide to go to college later in life, after you had experience covering a major pro sports beat?

Produced/Hosted a radio show covering Minnesota Professional Sports while in college. Began as a summer internship, quickly turned full time. During the time there I covered the Vikings (mostly), as well as the Twins, Wild, and Timberwolves.

Began minor blogging/freelancing (football in general) at the same time when I later ran into Bleacher Report.
