Interesting how they cut columnists from news or made them part time, but didn't have Poz or Whitlock go that way.

    Quoted for truth, Moddy.

My thoughts are with everyone affected. (Seems like I'm typing that phrase a lot lately ...)

Pedley, besides being a person you'd enjoy sharing a meal with, is also - at least in my mind -- among the most versatile motorsports writers. F1, IRL, CART, Busch Series, whatever.

If 67 from the newsroom was accurate, they're not even half done with it yet.

The text from Bottom Line Communications...These are just the names that they know, so unfortunately, 'beetus could be right. Though, the unfortunate people probably already know, the names just aren't leaked.

JPed is one of the best in the business. We can shoot the shit for hours about any type of racing, and he wasn't afraid to let me tag along with him in the garages and introduce me to all of motorsports' power players. He truly is a great guy and will be missed. I have a feeling he'll land on his feet though.

Fuck ... David Boyce? I used to work part-time at the Star, and David and I (and Steve Rock) would just shoot the shit when I got in. Nice guy. Years later, I was in Lawrence covering a state baseball tournament. and David was there. Went up and introduced myself as "the 15er you used to talk KU sports with" and he remembered exactly who I was. I used to think he had the best beat at the Star. So much freedom, so many great stories to do. He is a stellar writer, and I hope the man lands on his feet.

Good luck to all those at the Star, but for me, good luck to David Boyce.

I'm in a bit of shock about David Boyce. When I thought I was getting a bit jaded about all of the carnage, I see David Boyce's name show up on this damn list. Mr. Cougar is friends with DB and professionally, has many, many good things to say about him - about his work ethic, about his writing style, about his reporting abilities and his overall good energy. I hope like heck David lands on his feet.

I don't know if its possible for the Star presses to run without a David Boyce byline in the Sports section.

    Work ethic doesn't matter.
    Talent doesn't matter.
    How a nice a guy/gal you are doesn't matter.

The suits are trimming positions they deem expendable. And if you're in one of those spots, see you later.

Or, if you're at a union shop, if you're the bottom of the totem pole, see you later.

I'm not shocked by anything, nor should any of you be. We've seen this happen again and again and again and again.

It seems like the suits want to keep folks with...
    a. low salaries
    b. essential beats that are local in nature
    c. the ability to produce and update content for eight different platforms.

That way, they can eliminate the Internet guys and gals and save even more cash.
