That reminds me that Belle should probably be in, or at least closer than he ever came.

Again, Bagwell (and alomar for that matter) should be 1st ballot locks.

Gotta disagree. Alomar was outstanding. So was Larkin. They should make it if not the first time, by the third time.
But what about Raffy? Has time changed the way you feel about him?

Albert put up good numbers but was he REALLY an HOF player or just an outstanding talent? I tend to think more of the latter.

If we are going to put Kirby Puckett in, then we have to look at Albert Belle.

I don't think Alomar, Larkin, Martinez or anyone else is a first ballot lock next year...which could be good news for Andre Dawson and Bert Blyleven

I don't understand - he wasn't Darryl Strawberry. He performed, and for years was among the best ("most feared"?) in the game.

All 3 are far better candidates than Dawson.

    I'm not boosting Dawson, guy.
Just saying he got 67+% last year and with no first-ballot lock this year (a la Rickey last year) he's got a better shot.

Hope you're right about Blyleven. Though I'm nowhere near as adamant about Dawson. He's really tough.

Bagwell should be in. The .948 career OPS should work strongly in his favor. He was also a very good defensive first baseman and a threat to run, with 202 career steals.

Gant may have been a legitimate power threat later on in his career, but he didn't provide that much protection for Murphy his first three years in the league. His home run totals for 1987, 88 and 89 were 2, 19 and 9, respectively. By the time Gant had has breakout year (32 home runs in 1990), Murph was almost out the door.

Bagwell should get serious credit for playing his prime years in a cavern of a stadium and still putting up great seasons.
