I've read that voters were told vote for pre-1900 and post-1900, which royally screwed Young because he played well on both sides of that decade marker. As for Cobb and Ruth and why they didn't get listed on every baot, who knows?

There should be a rule. If someone gets in with 90 per cent of the vote or higher, and you can't present a logical argument as to why you didn't vote for him, you lose your fucking vote and never get it back.

Mark this down: The days of BBWAA as the HOF voting body are numbered.

    You really think so?

I can't see that happening any time soon - I think that group still wields enough power -- real or perceived -- to hang on to that privilege a little longer.

On the other hand, there are fewer papers, and I'm sure the BBWAA is expanding its ranks beyond what it originally ever intended to do. Don't the likes of Rob Neyer and another internet writer or two now members, or at least have votes for certain things like awards and HOF inductees? With the way newspapers are going, I can see the association losing strength, and other changes coming. May take another decade or so, but I can see it happening.

It's going to happen and it may not take a decade. Fewer papers, fewer 'lifers' on the beat, fewer people with the devotion to BBWAA issues than there have been in the past.

In all honesty, it's ridiculous that Vin Scully can't vote for the Hall but Norm MacLean can. The system needs to be overhauled, and it will be.

I've gotten that sense too in reading some recent columns by voters. Who replaces them though?

I can see MLB putting together a panel like they have for the new veterans committee -- some combination of players, media and executives.
