I read The Executioner's Song in college. I believe I had to write something about it. My memory fails me at the moment. I remember thinking it was quite a book, and I'll never forget Mailer noting that he was invited to Geraldo Rivera's room for a little pot-smoking. I believe he declined the offer.

A book that I would highly recommend is Dancing with the Two Headed Tigress by Tina Biswas. This is a great book which illustrates the how people have to adjust to different cultures, family dynamics and lifestyles.

I highly recommend the book to anyone.

OK, are there any Tom Robbins fans here who have read "Jitterbug Perfume?" Took me for-freaking-ever to finish it, and now that I'm done with it, I like it a lot more than I did when I was reading it, if that makes any sense. Just curious to see what others thought. The other stuff I've read of his has been a little bit lighter. Just seemed to take me forever to get into all the divergent storylines in this one.

My lovely friend HC gave me "Misquoting Jesus" and it confirmed what I believed. The current Bible is erroneous. If any grew up going to religious schools or is interested in religion, it's a hell of a read.

    Up next is Jonesy's book.

Speaking of Jonesy's book, when is it out in paperback? Sorry I gotta be cheap, but I'm looking forward to reading it and I gotta pay for a wedding next month.

Not till next year, Father's Day or thereabouts, Del.

I believe the title is changing, too. Out of Orbit seems to be the consensus.

Makes me think I've run out of minty gum, but hey, what do I know?

Second-best Robbins book after "Skinny Legs and All." Being set in New Orleans brings out the funky mood much more than if it was set in Seattle, like several of his books have been. Beets!

    Sirs, Madames,

Read Janet Malcolm's The Journalist and the Murderer the other day -- now have a possible career-killing case of conscience.

    YHS, etc

I may help buy you more gum, then. I've been wanting to pick that up, and an upcoming cruise requires a book for some reading time on our private balcony.

    Well, maybe I can't afford it ...

    :)

Just finished Random Family as well, and it was riveting, heart-breaking and well-reported and -written. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Just finished Frank Deford's new baseball novel, The Entitled. Highly recommended if you enjoy baseball fiction.

Does anyone know anything about the new Charlie Savage book, "Takeover"? Any thoughts on Savage? Not familiar with him.
