Interesting list. I am reading Then We Came To the End now. Not far enough into it to judge. I love Perrotta but did not love The Abstinence Teacher. Very empty ending. Have Into The Wild, it is near the top of my list.

Into the Wild is one of my favorite books, and my favorite book of Krakauer's. It would go top five in my list of books I wish I'd written. It's just a perfect little book. It does such a good job of painting in greys.

I thought the movie was excellent, too.

Now you got me all curious about what the other four are.

Into the Wild is indeed a great book. Best of Krakauer. I, too, am curious about the other four books Jones wishes he'd written.

I love the book, I've read it at least 10 times, but I was somewhat disappointed in the movie.

I'm not sure I can articulate why, other than to say I didn't think it really captured the richness of McCandless' experience in Alaska — or something like that. I also thought it made the parents look like worse people than they really are, or at least worse than they appeared in the book.

Maybe I just loved the book too much to ever really like the movie, which is part of the reason I never saw All The Pretty Horses.

I'm sort of terrified to see what's going to become of the movie version of The Road, although it does have Viggo Mortensen and Michael K. Williams (Omar Little, for Wire fans) attached, so we'll see.

Start a thread, and you go first. Then Irish. Then I'll go. Maybe not just books -- five things you wish you had written. I know right now.

Oh, I'll take that dare cowboy. Give me 10 minutes.

Hmm. It's hard to envision a movie version of The Road that's anything close to the book, because the story is so internal and, really, as far as plot, not much actually happens. Would have to be pretty depressing scenery, too. We'll see.

10 minutes? An hour? I'm just going to go ahead and start this over on the journalism thread. Got to go to work in the morning.
