Got to throw out John Dunning's Cliff Janeway novels for those of you who like a good mystery. I just finished his newest novel, "The Sign of the Book" and it was a great read.
Recomend new Dunning readers start with "Booked to Die", the first novel in the series.
Besides being just a good mystery, Dunning provides a lot of info on the book trade and rare books. Really interesting stuff.

I agree 4040 except for the one before the latest release. The first two were really good.

    Just got back from vacation.
I read Klosterman's 'Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs.' Loved it.
I left 'The Historian' sitting on my coffee table when I left. So I cannot report back on that, yet.

think it was Ledbetter who mentioned Bringing Down the House. I'm not sure how to paste
in someone else's post when you want to respond to it.
That was great. Think Mezrich is a Harvard grad and to me it's pretty cool when an Ivy League
guy can write a book that appeals to people of various socio-economic levels. After I read it I told my
friend, who recommended it that it definitely should be a movie.
I definitely should read more than I do, but in the last year of the few I' ve read Bringing Down
the House and Among The Thugs by Bill Buford are the best.

When's the "Killing Yourself to Live" thread begin? I just finished it, great stuff...

I'm going to try and start the "Killing Yourself to Live Thread" tonight. (Maybe even this afternoon, if I can get inspired enough to write my review.) Perhaps Moddy would be so kind as to pin it when it appears. [Pathetic pandering]

I'm looking forward to reading 'Killing Yourself to Live,' but it's pretty far down in my reading queu right now.
Just wrapping up 'Who's Bible Is It?' by Jaroslav Pelikan. Interesting book about the development, divergence and roles of canonical scripture in Judaism and Christianity. Very interesting. Hope to be finished this weekend.
Then I have to read 'The Historian.'
Then I'm going to get 'Killing Yourself to Live.'

  10. ***The Survivor: Bill Clinton in the White House (a tremendous balanced account of Clinton's presidency by John F. Harris)

***Pirate Coast: Thomas Jefferson, the First Marines, and the Secret Mission of 1805 (non-fiction by Richard Zacks that reads like a novel)

Yes. You made a good purchase there.

When I got it, I wondered how he could write 300 words on a punch. But he pulled it off quite impressively.

He admits to being a fan, tough on Hilary, gushing to Bill. Even the Stephanopolous book was harder on him. That said, a very good read.
