    You are not.

    And Pierce is friggin' brilliant.

I'm wasting my time with a fluff Emily Giffin novel, Love the One You're With, until payday when I intend to pick up The Cult of the Amateur: How Today's Internet is Killing Our Culture.

That books sounds interesting, but I don't have time to read it. Too much to do online.

AMac, I love fluff novels. I'll hit all the book sales and buy all the $5 chick fluff I can find. If it has a cartoonish drawing on the front and a title like "All She Ever Wanted" or something, I'm a sucker.

    Sirs, Madames,

Adjustment to big book plan ... having to tackle semi-big Moby-Dick so that I can converse with Daughter No. 1 about the subject of her essay. Express read. Should kids not solicit the FOTF essay-writing service when they reach university age?

M-D is better than I remember it. Cormac McCarthy clearly read it.

Yeah I am reading this also after finishing Graveyard of Empires. It is the best book of on the ground reporting for the War on Iraq. It has been said often by literary critics but reminds me a lot of The Things They Carried. This is definelty a must read for anyone interested in the war regardless of political ideology.

I have to admit I liked Moby Dick. Even laughed at a couple of the jokes.

But I could see where it might be tough slogging for some. It helps that I like nautical novels (i,e,. the Patrick O'Brian stuff).

I don't know Brett, except through his rare posts here, but I will heartily recommend this book. It's short -- I picked it up and finished it in less than four hours. But it's a great little story about a guy nobody had heard of 30 years ago and just about every baseball fan is aware of today: Dr. Archibald "Moonlight" Graham.

As is usually the case, truth is stranger than fiction -- and often, even more compelling -- and it was fascinating to learn about the complex man behind the Doc Graham legend.

Did you know that his pioneering research on children's blood pressure is still cited in medical journals and textbooks, and earned him international acclaim among his peers in that field? Did you know he played baseball locally around northern Minnesota until he was almost 50 years old?

    What a fun read.

Brett's a good guy to boot - and I need to get the book myself.
I haven't told him yet because he might kick my ass. Turns out I was at Nats Park on a day he was there selling/signing and I didn't find out until later. Should have saved my rib money and bought his book. I'd be better educated and less fat.

I'm having to put "Idiot America" on hold because I've borrowed "Frozen: My Journey Into The World of Cryonics, Deception and Death" from my boss. And just from the advance info and the pictures (creepy!) I have a feeling it will be something that will creep me out but also be very ... entertaining feels like the wrong word, but intriguing?

    Anyone else read it yet?
