    Nope, we didn't discuss :( ;)...

But, yes, I recommended it initially. VERY funny I thought (lots of laugh out loud moments) and informative (history of the hobby, etc.) look at the obsession that is fantasy football. And, like Hockey Goon implied, it's a quick read -- guy's not going to be winning any Pulitzers quite yet, but it's an entertaining, breezy read, mostly because (I feel, anyway) St. Amant doesn't take himself or the subject too seriously, but also doesn't sell anything short. Enjoyable writing style, not trying to be more than it is.

Incidentally, the author has also been on ESPN lately with Meat Loaf talking fantasy football, so I guess his star within that industry anyway is rising (albeit only "Classic Now" but still...). I posted about the Meat Loaf thing a week or so ago. St. Amant said in one show that his next book is on semi-pro football, sort of a Friday Night Lights/Paper Lion kinda thing from a kicker's POV. Should be funny at least.

'Villa Incognito' by Tom Robbins is good.

And yes, I am Tom Robbins.

A winner of a book chronicling the account of a century of eat-my-ass turmoil brought to the world by a little-known nation of angry warrior poets and its celebrated leader.

If you liked that, you should also check out My War by Colby Buzzell (portions of the book appeared in Esquire) and In the Company of Soldiers by Rick Atkinson.

Jarhead is good, too, but it's about the first Gulf War.

If you liked the fantasy football book Committed, you might like this upcoming one about fantasy baseball:

Just finished reading "Hell at the Breech" by Tom Franklin, a novel about a late-19th century war between the inhabitants of a rural Alabama county. It took me longer than it should of to read it, but that's my fault, not the books. When I finally buckled down, I flew threw the last 150 pages. Next up, "A Tale of Love and Darkness" by Amos Oz.

I've never posted or read anything in the books thread. But I just finished A Walk In the Woods. I think it's something of a classic at this point. It's a Bill Bryson work, his best. If you're not familiar with it, you need to read this book.

I liked his book about Australia -- In A Sunburned Country -- better, but A Walk In the Woods was very good. I have read two other books by Bryson and all of them were enjoyable reads.

I liked the Australia book as well, particularly the bit about drinking one's own urine to stave off dehydration.

I've also read I'm A Stranger Here Myself. I'm now on his first book, and I'm debating whether to purchase his latest work.

Bryson is always a very good, very funny read. Love AWITW and all his travelogues. Anyone read his latest, A Short History of Nearly Everything? Curious how that is....

A Short History of Nearly Everything was quite entertaining. Plenty of stuff in there I didn't know squat about, but Bryson made it funny and understandable.
