BOOKS THREAD

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by Moderator1, Apr 22, 2005.

  1. Started Natchez Burning ... I can't put it down.
I love/hate those novels about the deep south (John Grisham, too). I love to read them, but, despite the fact its just stories, it makes me loathe Mississippi. They'll be serving Berry Garcia in Hell before I set foot in Mississippi.

Natchez Burning is superb! Couldn't put it down, and I immediately followed up with The Bone Tree.
    Compelling and infuriating at times.

  3. Was up until 1:30 last night finishing the last 400 pages.
Disappointed there was NO real ending, muchless resolution, but yeah on to The Bone Tree.

  4. Not as happy with the Bone Tree. It was Ok. Prolly won't pick up anymore of the Penn Cage series.

    Possible spoiler ....

I thought it was pretty ballsy of the author to kill off a main character. I didn't like that character anyway.

I think the story may have been TOO long. But I did enjoy the tidbits of quasi-historical stuff.

Do you guys read on a device? Or do you buy / borrow / steal actual paper books? I have a Nook.

I read on my phone, my iPad, an actual Kindle AND regular old books. They are my preference and I probably do 75 percent of my reading that way. But it is much easier on a bus, subway, whatever to call it up on the phone. Cheaper, too.

I mostly use my Sony eReader with some physical books thrown in. The eReader is great since I essentially have my entire library with me at all times. Add my iPod to the mix and my purse is an amazing entertainment centre.

I'd say 90-95 percent of my reading is good ol' print. But I don't buy many books anymore ... we've got a good library system, so I borrow most of what I read. And there's a group of old rockers at work that exchanges rock n roll bios/memoirs. It's good after-work/late night reading.

We have a great library system in town and the main branch is a five-minute walk from the house. I go there once every couple of weeks, as a commuter I can read a book a week on the train.

Just finished "The Book of Strange New Things" this morning.

Yay for me! It's been a while since I've finished a book, sadly. I immediately downloaded another acclaimed distopian novel, "Station Eleven."
