Man that was the most emotional ending to a book I’ve ever read. Just beautiful. FIVE THUMBS UP!!!

That's a shame. He did some great work, funny as hell sometimes.

    You done Donald Westlake?

No. I'll put that on my long list. Hoping to get into Walter Mosley as well. I know he's done some writing for Snowfall and I've enjoyed that show.

Anyone done Andy Weir's new one, "The Hail Mary"? If you liked "The Martian" you'll love this one.

Hard SF, math and physics are important plot points. Weir writes competence porn, that is his chosen protagonist pattern.

It's the most original SF I have read in years. I was maybe twenty percent into the book when I realized that I was reading sf not related to the half a dozen basic tropes of sf. Alien invasion, time travel, first contact, space opera, it wasn't any of that stuff. Shorty after that I realized that it was actually subverting several of those.

It's freaking great. If you have an Audible subscription, do it that way. The voice acting and presentation set an entirely new level. Try it.

Started an interesting take on Sherlock Holmes.
    Joe Ide’s “IQ” series.

I've read four of the five (and have the fifth). Good stuff, not light. Very intense

Really enjoyed it. Bingo, it was so different from other SF.

Read “The Barcelona Complex” by Simon Kuper. Well written book about the rise and uniqueness of FC Barcelona, world soccer in general and it’s fall into financial disaster.

I ordered "Across the River: Life, Death, and Football in an American City" by Kent Babb for JR's birthday. Good choice??

Sounds good to me. It's on my checked-out-from-the-library pile.

Almost done with "The Devil's Playbook: Big Tobacco, Juul and the Addiction of a New Generation." Picked it up on a whim after reading an NYT review, and it's darned good. My teenager has told me about classmates vaping but I had no idea how big this was a couple years ago, and I didn't know the Silicon Valley backstory.
