The Braves should put a "C" on their hat and have fun with it, maybe changing their name to the Cobb Corns or Cobb Salads.

    (I can hear you booing.)

Using L.A. as a bargaining chip. Imagine that. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Actually, I think the Browns owned the stadium and the Cardinals were the renters, if memory serves me right. The Cards even threatened to move because they were tired of paying rent.

The problem was, the Browns wern't drawing anybody because they sucked so much, while the Cards were a among the best teams.

Veeck owned Sportsmans Park and didnt have the money to bring it up to code. So, as an attempt to lure Gussie Busch into buying the stadium, he spent money to build a private VIP owner's box with bar, knowing Busch would love to have access to it to entertain clients. Needless to say, he took the bait.

I was just noting how L.A. was a golden goose for MLB in the 1950s a lot like it is for the NFL today. A fulcrum upon which to leverage, although obviously the situations are different.

In other news, Atlanta is now accepting applications for expressway crossing guards.

For a 7:05 weeknight first pitch at Cumberland Mall, you might be able to walk between the stopped cars on the Perimeter unaided.

They built it there so the ghost of Pascual Perez can find it.

I grew up in Atlanta. If you worked extremely hard you might have been able to find a worse place to have put a stadium. Maybe.

Exactly my thinking on most complaints aired here that I've read anyway ... pro baseball belongs downtown by the skyline.
