Dodger Stadium has also gutted it's lower bowl and rid itself of the dugout-level seats that I always found kind of cool.

They're gonna be talking about the Silna brothers 500 years from now. That was genius.

The only gripe about Globe Life Park in Arlington is that it's open air and should've been built with a retractable roof from the beginning. A day game in August there is a step removed from hell. Otherwise it's perfectly fine.

A damn shame it'll be gone in 2021. I just hope the new stadium isn't irretrievably flawed like some other new ones have been.

There was nothing wrong structurally with Turner Field. The problem was it was not originally built for baseball, so the sight lines were not good. It was also far too big, with about 10,000 too many seats. And there were inexplicably no lights in the outfield, so the players hated it.

The move to Cobb County was ultimately about money and white flight, but there were other legitimate reasons to want to leave Turner Field.

The changes to Fenway preceded the 2004 World Series win. John Henry's group decided to renovate the stadium rather than try to build somewhere else.

Since the outfield is the part that was built after the Olympics, I imagine they just didn't add any new lights, though you're right, that's kind of dumb.

Yeah, it was prior to 2003. IIRC, that was part of the pitch they used to try and lure Billy Beane.

I don't know that Angel Stadium really needs an asterisk. It's true it was an open stadium, then enclosed and then back again, but the original part of the ballpark, the three tiers that extend a few rows into fair territory in the outfield, has pretty much stayed intact. I think it can still be considered a 51-year-old stadium.

Or to put it another way, when a team is still playing in the ballpark while said changes are being made, and they don't have to go play at another site for a year or two, it's just a renovation, not an out-and-out rebuild.

Have they kept it game-ready? Or did they start ripping out seats, taking down video boards and screens, and generally gutting it for demolition?
The story said it "can be utilized," but if they're going to tear it down in July they need to start ripping up the guts pretty soon, right?
