Interesting. It's insane there are morons out there who transfer their dislike of her character to her as a person.

I've always thought Skyler acted very realistically in her dealings with Walt. She too was in a desperate frame of mind pre-discovery of Walt's cooking. She was willing to go back and work for Beneke despite his having a past of being a heel.

I think a lot of people think its cool that Walt "did something", illegal or not, and Skyler tried to "do something" within societal norms. Of course Walt came out ahead (financially) because he's cheating.

There's one line in that piece that did hit me wrong though.

"Could it be that they can’t stand a woman who won’t suffer silently or 'stand by her man'?"

The problem with that line of thinking is that Skyler essentially is suffering silently and is standing by her man, participating in illegal activity herself, despite the moments where she stands up to Walt or makes his life miserable in a seemingly spiteful way.

A strong woman turns him in ... and that could have happened at the beginning of Season 3, before she really knew the extent of Walt's fanatic drive and willingness to use any means at his disposal to get what he wants. It could have happened before the "I am the one who knocks" moment.

So she's not that strong. Whether she's in a personal hell or not, she reaps some benefits from Walt. The car wash, etc. That was her idea.

    Bubbler is correct.

But the thing that I hate is that the first episode introduces Skyler White as the type of bitch who gives her husband a birthday handjob while occupied with her computer and replaces real bacon with vegan bacon. I cannot stand Vince Gilligan's "Aww shucks, why y'all hate Sky?" routine.

Going to Jesse's place to read him the Carrie Nation riot act for selling him marijuana to Walt to deal with his chemo didn't set her on a good path.

I thought that was awful. If my spouse had cancer, I'd let her smoke whatever to make her feel better.

There's a good reason people think she was a harpy. She was. And sometimes ... she is.

Part of the reason Gilligan feels that way about Skyler is his goal in the series was to see a reversal in who the audience was rooting for from pilot to finale. The idea for the show came from wanting to see a story of the protagonist gradually becoming the antagonist. In the early episodes Skyler, Hank and Jesse were all assholes getting in the way of a lowly science teacher desperate to save his family. They've evolved into characters who are varying degrees of innocent and essentially held hostage by a power hungry criminal.

Then is it fair to ask if the show is a success? Most of the people I know who watch it still root for Walt.

I'd say it's fair to ask, but I'm guessing that wasn't his only goal. Personally, I'd like to see Hank or Jesse put a bullet in Walt's brain in the last episode.

If I had my way, the cartel would kill everyone. Except Badger.

I know he's neo-Nazi scum and everything, but I'd like to see the guy who played Devil on Justified be the last man standing. Just 'cause.

Really? I honestly don't know anyone personally who doesn't think Walt is a giant scumbag who deserves to die at the hands of numerous characters.

And yeah, Hank's another character who was your standard asshole cop at first, and now just about everyone likes him, or feels bad for him.

Also, I can never tell on this one, Versatile, does the vegan bacon thing really bother you that much?

Doesn't everybody know a guy like Hank who is a total blowhard, but basically a good guy who once you get to know you can't help but like?

My problem with Skylar and Walt Jr. as well is that they're just boring.
Nothing against the actors themselves as human beings but the scenes they're both in, without a single exception I can currently think of, have all ground the show to a dead halt and their characters are completely useless to the point where I'd rather watch Hank take a 45 minute shit than listen to the two of them talk. Ever.
I don't know if it's their lack of development or simply because I viewed them as obstacles to Walt's quest for greatness but I didn't root for them early on, couldn't care less for them as Walt's true personality emerged and don't care if they live or die in these final five episodes now.
    They're just awful characters.
At least Marie finally got interesting this week.
