It bothers me in the sense that it clearly was used as a device to make Skyler detestable. That was the purpose of that scene and all her other scenes in Season 1 and really most of her scenes through "I.F.T." And that's fine, but then to hear Vince Gilligan say that he can't believe the audience doesn't side with Skyler is just disingenuous.

And yes, I would say most people I know root for Walt, either overtly or subconsciously, even if they're also rooting for Hank and/or Jesse and/or Skyler.

I honestly didn't even remember that scene until you brought it up here the first time (and then subsequent times) so I think using that scene as one meant to make her 'detestable' is a more than a bit overdramatic. Then again, in general, I didn't dislike her even at the beginning as much as most did here. I just thought she was a bit annoying.

It was one of the first scenes of the series, though. It was the introduction to Skyler and Walter Jr.

Still, detestable? Also, in general, the first few episodes are pretty blurry for me. I can remember a few scenes, but mostly just remember that it was much funnier than I was expecting when I sat down to watch it.

The handjob scene was pretty detestable. The guy has cancer and turns 50, and this is what he gets?

To me that showed where their marriage was at and part of the reason Walt was unhappy, but I wouldn't say it makes her detestable.

You think Skyler is boring? Seriously?

She's been a pivotal character in the series and her entire being has evolved dramatically

That's like saying Lady Macbeth has nothing to do with the play.

And Marie is about the least interesting and least developed character and Betsy Brandt may be the weakest actor in the series

I won't dispute that last point. Marie has been AWFUL this entire series but she was interesting in this last episode. Very interesting.
To me, though, I've just never had an interest in Skylar for any reason whatsoever.
I didn't care about her during her pregnancy, during her work with that other guy, during her quasi threats to Walt about leaving, through her "episode" in the pool and through anything involving Walt and the money laundering.
I'm just not interested in the character. She is more annoying than Vic Mackey's wife in the Shield, nowehere as likeable as Rita on Dexter and nowhere near as interesting/complex as Carmella on the Sopranos. As far as TV Drama wives go, I could do without her.
And don't get me started on Walt Jr. What a pointless and useless character.

Marie is really boring. Skyler is mostly boring. Her best moments were telling that lie about blackjack and standing up to Marie and Hank.

Saying Skyler and Walt Jr. are boring, I don't really agree, but I can see how some might have that opinion. Saying they are useless characters doesn't make much sense to me. Walt's desire to secure a future for his family ignited everything. If Walt doesn't have a family there is no show.

Walt Jr. hasn't had a plot for himself ever.

That doesn't bother me. Too many shows fall into the trap of thinking they have to give the kids something to do even if they aren't actively involved in the main plot. He's a teenage kid that likes bacon and fast cars and is moody with his parents sometimes, but he matters because he's a major source of the adult characters' motivations.
