Breaking: Obama supports gay marriage

I guess the only concern for Obama politically will be if it energizes the religious bigots who were lukewarm about Romney because he was a Mormon. Karl Rove or someone will be working hard to do that, I'm sure.

Most of the people in the American Revolution were rouge, at least by the standards of the day.

    LOL.

I'm glad he did it. I really am. It's a process that is going to take time, but this just sped up the timetable, and it will make life better for people -- especially young people struggling with their sexuality.

And, DoubleDown won't think it's fair of me, but he was pretty much forced to do it.

That makes it less of a profile in courage, but he's still ahead of the game, and well ahead of a lot of (Republican) politicians. He's now on the right side of history.

Mormons have always opposed anything gay.

This little thing called the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

    Yes and no.

Making this about social issues might turn off some independents. But it will fire up social conservatives who were lukewarm (at best) about Romney before now.

I have no idea what that is.... and don't really care.

And also remind them that he was for gay marriage until it was politically expedient to be against it.

    Remind you of anyone?

    OK, just read this link.

It is a good point, and I hope ABC hasn't played up/edited statement in a way to show greater support for the issue than he meant. And, I really hope they don't try to "walk back" the President's support for gay marriage.

And, while he could have gone further, apparently, even the President's personal support for gay marriage is a big fucking deal.

Should civil rights be up for majority vote in the various states? No. They really shouldn't be. But, this is progress. It matters.

I was just going to ask if there was anyone here who will change their vote based on this?
