Well, if some states allow it, don't all states have to recognize those marriages because of the Full Faith and Credit Clause?

    Fuck that noise.

    This one is all me.

Pretty good 12 months for me. I killed Gaddafi, and I got Obama to come out for gay marriage.

First you let a black be president. Then the gays want to marry. And I can't even carry a semi-automatic weapon. WTF? [/Mark2010]

I am fascinated by the political implications of this, probably because it's one of the first times during my lifetime that a president or a presidential candidate did something because it was the right thing, even if it has the potential to hurt him politically.

Granted, Obama was for gay marriage and then against it and now for it again, but he still did the right thing.

Now, I'd be even more impressed if he did something that would automatically give every gay person in the country the right to marry, but I guess it's all about one step at a time.

Good lord, would that set off a firestorm for the "we want smaller government as long as the government is doing things we don't like" Republicans.

As a registered Republican who is pretty moderate-to-liberal socially, I am totally geeked by this. I didn't want to vote for Romney, but wanted Obama to stand for something. He did that today.

You say "one step at a time," but is there any step at any time that any president could take to just grant this right?
