Are the rest of us supposed to say thank you?

  2. Hah - this is great.

Over 20,000 signed a petition to move Democratic National Convention. This is hilarious. There is bound to be both an Occupy Charlotte protest and these people demonstrating against Amendment 1 and at some point control will be lost. Some knuckleheads will think a replay of Chicago 1968 would be cool.

The money that will have to go to security will sap the money that would have otherwise have been used for ads. Roosters coming home indeed.

funny thing is, mark, didn't you once say that you lived in one of the most liberal states in the country?
unless you recently moved, i have to wonder just what type of bigotry you are referring to here.

Yes, I recently was forced to move to deal with a major family crisis involving elderly parents. Where I live now is certainly NOT by choice.

Speaking of choice, why is it that so many states keep passing laws/amendments to define marriage as between one man and one woman?

So where you live now, you're banned from driving, owning property and voting -- but you could do all in your former place? Whatever people here might think of you, if you really are being discriminated against because you have green hair or one leg or something that doesn't involve being a convicted man, I'd bet we'd all rally to help you be treated equally in your community.

To add: If you are a convicted man, there doesn't seem to be any reason you can't own property that's not a gun, and you should be able to drive assuming your conviction wasn't because of DUI or vehicle manslaughter or some such. But seriously, this board is populated with kind, generous folks who'd gladly fight the unfair discrimination you're facing.

You can at least get a state ID card.

I do find it interesting how much heat NC is getting for passing the same law that most states have passed to one degree or another at some point in recent history. I figure they may be the last state to do it though.
I also wouldn't be surprised if Romney is the last GOP nominee to be on the record against marriage rights (civil unions or whatever) for gay people. The issue is eroding quickly as more people realize that whether or not gay people are allowed to marry doesn't impact their marriage at all.

NC's 61-39 margin was the reason it generated so much heat IMO. I think most people are working off the assumption it's a 50-50 matter -- which it is, nationwide -- but that was a signal of just how far this thing has to go when you start counting the states (and their congress presence).

Actually, I think NC Amendment 1 does away with civil unions, too, and calls into question the legal rights of unmarried straight couples. Really retrograde stuff.

Yup. Local GOPers are already looking to cut tons of people from the insurance rolls, today.
