Support gay marriage: Because why shouldn't they suffer like the rest of us? (Says the guy who's not married and might well never be married.)

    :D

You're speaking, of course, about Allen Iverson's mom, correct?

That passage is the most troubling (vis-a-vis homosexuality) to pretty much all the Christian community, left, right, whatever. As my wife's godfather, who was a big muckety-muck in the Episcopal Church (as in dean of a prominent Northeastern seminary, rector-in-residence at some seriously prominent/powerful communions) wrote, this Pauline passage is not easily dismissed. You can work past it and get to a pro-same sex marriage position (which he had), but it's work.

Paul was like a lot of late-in-life converts -- often being an insufferable asshole, worse than people who quit smoking.

If they'd had "the patch" back then, maybe he'd have lived that nice cushy life his economic station and Roman citizenship all but guaranteed him.

I know an easy way: Realize that the Bible was written by men, prone to some mistakes.

Does it seem hypocritical to anyone else for Bristol Palin to bring up Malia and Sasha in her response, considering all the bleating her family has done about the other side bringing family into politics?

If you want to bring the Scriptures into the discussion: " . . . just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire,[a] serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire."

You'd be surprised at how "not easy" that way is. Not saying you're wrong, mind you, but simply pointing out that the Bible was written by men with feet of clay isn't quite the theological "get out of jail free" card you might think it is.

Not from some people who I have spoken with, and interviewed, who have a better understanding of the topic than I think we have.

At some point in my life, I want to make a real effort to undertake a historical, literary, and theological study of the Bible. It's so influential in Western society, I almost feel obligated to do so.

    FWIW, I'm Catholic.

I think the stuff written after the birth of Jesus plays a little better in today's world.
