I can buy "antiquated" and I do think it's a less loaded term than "bigoted," but no, I don't think there's any middle ground. You're either for everyone having this civil right or against it.

I don't think that happens without this announcement. I agree that the churches loved W. but I didn't see them getting behind Romney until Obama's "attack on marriage".

It's interesting. I think there are a lot of people who are fine with civil unions, but aren't fine with gays marrying. Are they bigots?

Nothing offensive. What makes them wrong is that they are an overdone cliche. That was the magazine cover equivalent of the Macarena -- even if Tina Brown is the editor.

Bigot is an ugly word. It should be used sparingly.

I think "civil unions but no marrying" is runoff of politicians trying to play both sides. And it's still telling a group of people they get less than the others.

Don't you mean BECAUSE Tina Brown is the editor, Ragu?

Yes and then they turned off the teleprompter and he sounded like an idiot with no clue.

And then, four years later he has proven that to be the case.

He is like the wizard of Oz, you look behind the curtain and you realize we've all been fooled.

This is an argument that's fair, and is largely a semantic one.

People basically think that "marriage," by definition, means between a man and a woman and that calling same-sex unions "marriage" is akin to saying that, from now on, dogs are cats.

Here's the thing, though: Romney made it very clear that he will not support a "civil union" that has all of the qualities of marriage without the name, so he's not trying to split the baby here at all.

    I stand corrected!

I think it's the way a lot of "older" people who otherwise consider themselves to be liberal feel...

I have a hard time calling those people bigots.

I agree with this, and said as much earlier. But, I don't think you fire Tina Brown for one cliché cover.

Her goal was to get people talking about NewsWeek, and she succeeded at that. (Especially in light of last week's Time cover.)

Besides, I don't think Drip was calling for firings because he thought the covers were cliché. If I'm wrong, I'm sure he'll correct me.
