ESPN SC has devoted at least 90 seconds so far to the fact that Brett Favre was seen at a high school in Hattiesburg, Mississippi throwing a football with some of the players from the high school team.

    Amazing.

Uh....I'm pretty sure Vikings fans want Favre. If they don't, they deserve what they get from Jackson and/or Sage.

He faded badly at the end of last season, not surprising for a nearly 40-year-old QB. Why should we expect it to be any different when he is a year older?

If the Vikings are content to win 10 games and go one-and-done in the playoffs, why do they need the expense and aggravation of bringing the Brett Favre circus to town? Jackson and Rosenfels can do that.

If they want to win a Super Bowl, they need to draft a real QB and rebuild from scratch around him. Then, once they get to be decent again, they need to bring in a head coach who isn't going to make Schottenheimer-esque tactical blunders at inopportune moments.

And if they want him, they deserve what they get from an aging, way-past-his-prime interception machine who will get worse and worse as the season wears on, and likely will be the biggest hurdle to MAKING the playoffs.

But you were basing the Vikings' pending decision on the fact that Favre has entered...how did you put it?...The Self-Absorbed Asshole Hall of Fame. Not his talents, or the talents he once had. At least, that's what you said anyway.

Drafting a QB of the future is one thing. They didn't do it. So on to plan B, which is either bringing in Favre and injecting some juice into the franchise, or sticking with Jackson or Sage. And I can't understand why anyone wouldn't want Favre in that situation.

I'm not sure what amazes me more -- the fact that this guy manages to keep his name in the news even though he (a) is retired and (b) hasn't been particularly relevant in at least a few years -- or the fact that ESPN continues to act as if this story is worthy of breaking news alerts and whatnot.

One of the best QBs of all time comes out of "retirement" to play for a New York franchise. That's relevant where I come from.

I get what you're saying, though.

Because he's not the answer. Favre isn't taking the Vikings to the Super Bowl — or anywhere near it. Why waste a year on his drama-queen bullshit when it's not going to pay off?

You don't know any of this. How do you know Favre won't take the Vikings anywhere near the Super Bowl? And what does that even mean? Are you saying they won't make the playoffs? Because if they do, I'd say that's pretty close to the Super Bowl, three games from it, in fact.

They're damn near a playoff team without Favre. And, in my opinion, Favre is better than any QB they have on their roster.

Well, a healthy, focused and motivated Brett Favre probably is. The busted-down Brett Favre who played at the end of last season probably isn't better than any QB on ANY team's roster.

Because, of course, another aspect of the Brettney Egorama is that in order to keep his consecutive-start streak alive, he must start every game, no matter how dinged up he may be.

The Baltimore Orioles can probably thank god Cal Ripken isn't trudging out there to DH every day, hitting .147 in an attempt to stretch his streak to 4,000 games.

I was reading the Simmons-Gladwell thing today (linked below), and Gladwell makes the point I was trying to make, only better.

The Vikings aren't a Super Bowl team with Rosenfels or Jackson at QB (barring a miracle). So why not bring Favre in and give him a shot? So what if you go 8-8 with Favre? You weren't going to win the Super Bowl with Rosenfels or Jackson anyway.
