Actually, Kato, I think it has something to do with what somebody else posted earlier today. He's done this so many times lately that people just don't care any more. They're kind of like, "OK, whatever."

the saddest part from any beat person's perspective is that the crawl and all these silly "updates" can really give your bosses a chance to put the screws to you, as in, "WHY DIDN'T WE HAVE THIS?"

if you have a boss who understands that half of what espn and nfl network report is unattributed b.s., that helps.but there are sadly some bosses who can't smell b.s. right under their nose and demand you run b.s. report for b.s. report with the breathless bozos.

it's very sad to see what espn has turned once-kickass print nfl aces like mort and werder into with their obvious demands to run with anything. the net's attitude is like that of the n.y. post at its worst in murdoch's reign, when the attitude was largely, "don't worry about being wrong, just be first."

terrible. against every journalistic tenet i was raised with.

Whether or not they sign him, the Vikings are probably thinking they're getting great PR from this, in simple terms of people talking and thinking about the team. It would be great if Favre decided to have his midlife crisis in private. But he's not going to do that. It still doesn't mean ESPN needs to run video of him throwing footballs to teens at a high school practice field.

Not if they don't sign him, and if he doesn't lead the team to the Super Bowl.

Winning the division isn't good enough -- they did that last year with Joe Btflsplk at quarterback.

Anything short of that, they look like idiots.

ESPN has too much time to fill this time of year. Instead of showing golf, tennis, soccer or track.... or any other actual sport, they fill their time with a bunch of ex-jock talking heads sitting around a table speculating about what MIGHT happen. Even though they have no more of an idea than any of the rest of us.

And, as Kato said, it hurts journalism in general anytime someone takes a wild rumor and runs it as gospel. Too many people out there still think if they heard it on ESPN it must be true.

Used to have a boss who jizzed his pants every time Mort, etc. reported anything, but now he's gone, so we rarely put anything in the paper that has only been reported by ESPN. I don't trust their sourcing policies (if they have any). And I'm beyond sick of hearing about this Favre crap.
