Brett Favre: Free Agent

    Haven't seen the Vikings play in the last two years, apparently.

    Peterson can take the handoff 800 times, it won't matter if teams don't have to even feign a pass defense.

    And the Vikings QBs last year combined for 17 picks -- in 450 attempts.

    Favre was 22 in 522 attempts.

    Given that Ferotte isn't there any more, and neither Jackson nor Rosenfels is a legit NFL starter, again, I don't see any downside.

    If Favre were (God-forbid!) to join the Vikings this season, it would only serve to back up my assertion that Childress should not be a head coach in the NFL.

    The idea that Favre could re-energize a push for a new stadium is one I believe would backfire for so many reasons:

    1. For every Vikings fan that would be thrilled to see Favre on the team, there are probably two to three who would quit following the team, from my informal and non-scientific survey.

    2. Minnesota has a huge budget deficit which is in dire need of fixing. State law mandates a balanced budget and there's lots of debate going on right now where those cuts to balance the budget will come from. Money for a stadium? Sorry kids, it just ain't there right now.

    3. There are countless Minnesota sports fans still bitter, after all these years, how the Dome was shoved down their throats in the first place. Minnesotans are also thrifty people as a rule. With the Vikings as the only tenant at the Dome after this season, look into refurbishing the darn thing.

    I never though I'd ever find myself so disillusioned with the NFL in general and Vikings in particular that I would even consider not following football anymore, but it's getting to that point. I'm convinced Zygi is Norm Green in disguise and I'm tired of out of town owners coming in and demanding taxpayer money for new Taj Mahals to line their pockets. Enough's enough.

    If all the Vikings QB is gonna do is handoff to Peterson, Jackson or Sage could do that. If they bring in Favre, they're doing so because they think Favre is a better complete QB than Jackson or Sage.

    Not sure I'd disagree with that.

    And we're off. ::)

    Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress and quarterback Brett Favre plan to meet at an undisclosed location later this week to discuss the possibility of the former Packers and Jets quarterback renouncing his retirement from the NFL to play the 2009 season with the Vikings, according to a source with direct knowledge of discussions between the two parties.

    There is a mutual understanding that sometime soon thereafter Favre will decide whether to sign with the Vikings. The team would expect him to participate fully in offseason minicamps and training camps, which he missed last year with the Jets.

    PK chimes in today to say that, well, gosh dang-it, he just doesn't know what Favre's going to do. It's anyone's guess.

    And that's why they pay him the big bucks, folks!

    If Brett Favre comes back, does Madden reconsider, too?
