Wait. Ryan benches the goalie who's pitched four shutouts, the US loses, she's pissed and lashes out and SHE'S dropped from the team?
    Wow.

Funny that he booted her the day after he wanted reconciliation or some nonsense.

Makes me think the decision came from higher up on the food chain than Ryan. Either that or he's a lying douchebag.

3 shutouts, she gave up 2 in the opener to North Korea

ESPN had a feature on Solo at halftime of the third-place game. It was by Chris Connelly, so I'm sure ESPN will play it multiple times on SportsCenter and other programs...Turns out the US-Brazil friendly in June was the first time Solo's dad was going to see her play for the national team. He was in and out of her life as a kid, but finally back in it. He was from New York and the game was there, so he was going to go to the game and show Hope and her brother his old neighborhood and what not. He died a few days before the game, and Scurry started that game instead of Solo. So, not playing in the semis seemed like an emotional game for Solo, sitting and losing obviously didn't help her emotions.

First athlete I can think of who can be a headline with just her name. Brianna looked good in the third place game

I must respectfully disagree with y'all. I find the honesty refreshing, no matter by whom -- or against whom -- it is expressed. I was offended by her openly ripping a teammate, too, but I wouldn't have the least bit of interest in this story if she had simply said, "I support the coaches' decision; whatever's best for the team."

As a coach or a teammate, I'd be aghast. However, I am a reader, and as a reader, I'll pick up tomorrow's paper (or, more likely in this case, click on the appropriate link) to see what happens next.

It's good that she wasn't around for the third-place game -- too much of a distraction.

Seriously, I like her honesty, but she should have kept her mouth shut until after the tournament. But if her dad died a few days before it may explain her outburst.

Fire Ryan. He made so many horrible moves in the tournament, it was ridiculous. The U.S. finally played to their potential in the third place game. Funny how having no pressure and playing in a game that didn't matter brought out the best in the U.S.

Was he fired for the switch?
The way he handled it? (This would be my reason.)
    Both?

According to the story, "everything was taken into consideration."
